Hi i wanted to introduce myself to all of you, i am new to mtt poker. I play a lot of cash games and have been playing for 2-3 years, i want to take my game to the next level so I did some research and here I am. I got a month of subscription but im sure I will get more. Can anyone mtt veterans or anyone in general point me to some videos and/or other things that I should start with to be able to consistently crush 5-30 dollar buy in tournies on pokerstars?

thank you!

edit: should i just do university?

I personally (and I asked for similar advice) would watch a lot of theory videos on topics your not good at by the way imnot a mTT regular

I also like Hagbard Celine and Ben Reasons videos to break up the theory

I would only use the university or topics your bad at, at least for now

Make an honest list of things your the worst at eg 3 betting bluffing etc and try to find vids on those topics so you can fix yoru biggest leaks first, my giant leap forward came when I got a hud and im not using it to its full potential yet

In no particular order I would watch the following (although the first 4 I would start off with)

1 Getting off on the right foot by Andrew Brokos

2 Hand reading

3 getting paid

4 bluffing

5 range construction (although I havent watched this yet)

6 making better c betting decisions

7 big blind defence

8 3betting

after all that theory DannyN13 Hagbard Celine Mathew Hunt and Ben reasons I recommend oh and theres a maths one too

Of course theres plenty of instructors videos I havent seen any from so far so have a look around to see which suits you and your playing style

good luck ..oh and try to get a study buddy preferably someone better than you …Ive found 1 and were both at similar level

hope this helps

Hey rotox,

I just researched my first German Tiger 1 tank in War Thunder…I am so excited! I cannot believe more people don’t play this game. It isn’t even a game…it is a total WW2 plane and tank combat experience! At work, I cannot wait to get home to fly missions in my P51 or B 17! Anybody remotely interested in WW2 combat is missing out!

In total agreement with Gary (hey Gary!) with starting off with Andrew’s “Getting off on the right foot” series. I just re-listened to it. It is gold, esp. if you are new to tournaments.

The other Foucault video series Gary suggests are directed at a slightly more seasoned audience. “Bluffing” and “Getting Paid” I found pretty straightforward. “Hand Reading” was like a “Eureka!” moment for me. It has helped me so much. The theme around not paying off villain with a bluff catcher has paid huge dividends in my game to this day. It is, however, not the easiest series to digest. I was staying in Madrid when I studied it, and I remember night after night going over and over it. If you can afford it, I totally recommend you get yourself a copy of (at least the starter pack) Pokersnowie. I used Pokersnowie as I studied that series, and it really helped me. I tried reading Snowie’s hands using Andrew’s methods, and I was astonished at the accuracy of my results given enough time to think (which Snowie gives you btw). Snowie is a first rate study tool for TPE theory video series. It is only $30/yr or something.

“Range Construction” should be a module in some kind of MIT or Harvard math degree. The work involved in order for Andrew to be able to present the material confidently must have been beyond massive. I studied each video in that series an average of seven times each…and I still cannot remember/struggle with much of it. It is based around game theory.

I tried out TPE Uni, and there is some good stuff in there. Some good poker minds will have included every video series in TPE Uni for a good reason. I didn’t get too far with it personally, because I already had my favourite coaches before I came across the Uni. Probably cannot go too far wrong with it though. IMO “Getting off on the right foot” should be the starting point for every new-ish MTT’er though…and even some seasoned vets will get a lot out of it I’m sure.

There’s a lot of support for Andrew Brokos and with good reason… his hand reading series is a must for any new member. If you’re in the mood for something a bit lighter then look up some of Marc Alioto’s videos, they’re always entertaining and informative.
