Question for the pros or anybody who has an opinion.

Is it worth playing in the new Stars timed tournies that are currently on trial? I saw one in the lobby today and decided to give it a go to see what they're like. The prize pool gets shared according to the stack sizes at the end of a set period, 3 hours in the case of the tournament I entered. See the link below for the lobby with full details.

In this $2 tournament after 3 hours there were 26 players still standing from 468 entrants. The guy in 26th got $6.16, the winner got $92.11, I got $25.20 for my 18,420 stack in 17th.

Q1.The winner is almost certain to win less cash than in a regular tournament, so is it even worth playing in these at all?

Q2. Do you think strategy should vary from that used in a regular freezeout? As we approached the end of the 3 hour period several players were stalling to the max.

if it was me, i would rather just play a turbo or even super turbo tourney that only goes for 3 hours, or go play a 180 man.

and you are are right, assuming you are a decent player, your equity in the tournament when there is 26 players left and you have a non critical stack is going to be MUCH higher than the chip value at that point in time

i also have just tried one earlier – but it was only 60mins long

nearly 1000 player have started and i guess about half of em were gone after 1hr, i got nearly 4x the buy in back

it s  a lil like a double or nothing sng.  just with a chance to win more than just the double, somehow i like the idea and maybe these tourneys could work as bankrollbuilders. what do you think?

but the longer ones like the one gary has played -180mins- seem weird, there i would also prefer a 180sng

For me its more like an SNG with an Small Reward.

For any decent MTT Player with an Edge (especially in the Endgame) it can`t be worth to only get 4-5times The buyin or?

Well i haven't played any of these… i play MTT's with an addiction and hunger to FT and look for a big win so i'm not sure ill want to either

I guess they could be bankroll builders but 3 hours seems like a long time for each one

i have only played it once some weeks ago, but i definetly would play more of em (but only the 60min version)

i think its a great alternative if you dont have much time and dont wanna play a turbo

but i dont get it why they still only offer em with a 2$ buy in
