$20+2 on Bovada. Blinds 300/600/60. UTG w/ AdiamondKheart I raise to 1200. I have 38BB

MP1 3bets to 2900 w/ 75BB

Button calls 2900 w/ 135 BB

I call for 1700 more

Flop is AheartQheartJheart

I check. MP1 checks. Button bets 4200

I shove

Just wanted to check my line. I decided to check and either call or shove depending on which villian bet and what the action was. I think I made a mistake here. I think I should have been check/shoving against MP1, he had the stronger range and I had the most fold equity against him. And check/calling against the button that had a wider range and could afford to double barrel bluff. As played I check/shoved on the button because I would have had a pot sized bet on the turn and if another heart came I thought it might kill the action so why not just put it all in on the flop.

Are there any merits to leading out on the flop? I think the only hands that are calling are going to also bet when checked to.

Thoughts and comments appreciated!

After thought: Should I ever think about shoving pre-flop with 38BB and that action behind. At the time I thought that my call was pretty standard but I'm always looking for alternate situational ideals.

Well, he has to be like the worst player ever if he double barrel bluffs in a 3way 3bet pot on this board. He might take a shot on the flop if its checked to him, but even that is only a small part of his range. Usually if he bets here he will have something that he wont get away for another 30 BB and that youre flipping with or are behind. Check / calling is def an option if you want to play conservatively. And yes, normally this is an auto-4bet spot PF from UTG, not sure why you didnt even consider that.

Thanks for the reply. I think if I had been suited I would have considered it more. I was thinking that I didn't want to inflate the pot out of position against 2 players that were so deep. Against a 5-bet I would be pretty much committed and I thought I didn't need to flip in this spot with 35+BB. When I say I'm never folding I was talking about post flop with that board holding the nut card to all the draws.

Well ok, but thats very conservative, AKo does not play particularly well OOP, and nowadays 3bet ranges are often so wide that AK is just the nuts, you just gotta stick it in.

Yes, it matters quit a bit how the money goes in. You need to consider what your play accomplishes, as with any other hand. Will betting/raising cause your opponent to fold significant equity? (I suspect not, with this hand – it's unlikely that anyone will fold better, and any hand you're ahead of, you're way ahead). Will betting/raising cause someone to call from way behind? Will checking/calling induce someone to put money in with a very weak hand now or later?
