I have some difficulties to play my 20-25bb stack near the bubble…Should we be a little more patient in our 3 bet shove spot ? Here is 2 spots with almost the same situations that i’m not sure if my play is ok…what do you think ?

1) fulltilt 109$/ 43 left, 36 paid/ my image is relatively tight / and vilain is 15/2 on 40 hands

No-Limit Hold’em Tournament, 250/500 Blinds (8 handed) – Hold’em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

Button (t36134)
Hero (SB) (t9076)
BB (t34568)
UTG (t66008)
UTG+1 (t16493)
MP1 (t10335)
MP2 (t19376)
CO (t2421)

Hero’s M: 12.10

Preflop: Hero is SB with A, J
1 fold, UTG+1 calls t500, 2 folds, CO bets t2371, 1 fold, Hero raises t8776, 1 fold, UTG+1 calls t8526

Flop: (t20923) 9, 9, 10 (3 players)

Turn: (t20923) J (3 players)

River: (t20923) 3 (3 players)

Total pot: t20923

vilain had KK on the hand…The limp from utg+1 look suspicious but is it a too good spot for not shoving ??

2) 22rebuy on absolute / 27 players left 18 paid / my image is relatively tight / button is kinda new but seems run at 46/36 on 15 hands

No-Limit Hold’em Tournament, 400/800 Blinds (8 handed) – Hold’em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

UTG (t25844)
UTG+1 (t23731)
MP1 (t22230)
MP2 (t11333)
CO (t39751)
Button (t26410)
SB (t1424)
Hero (BB) (t17184)

Hero’s M: 14.32

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, A
5 folds, Button bets t1600, SB calls t924, Hero raises t3300, Button calls t2500

Flop: (t9524) 3, 2, 5 (3 players)
Hero bets t10324, Button raises t22210, Hero calls t2660

vilain had 66…opinions on my play preflop and on a flop ?

Hand 1 is a good shove.  UTG limping is can be a monster but the % of time it is vs a really bad player doing awful things isn’t high enough to warrant total concern.  Just unlucky.  The CO shoves wide here.  Your AJ is +EV.

On and 2 just jam preflop.  You don’t want to play OOP with this many BBs and so much already invested.  His open range is light, and you’ll take a nice pot without showdown the vast majority of the time.

Thanks for posting, and using the converter!  Now, some constructive criticism – try to limit posts to 1 hand at a time.  It’s ok to post a bunch at one time.  You will find a lot of people just eager to dissect every hand.  When you combine hands into one post it can get confusing to follow/overwhelming to read.  And don’t post results, it’s hard to not let them influence advice.  Don’t these points it as a negative though, we really appreciate you taking the time to post here (and interesting spots too) – it’s just that over time some posting strategies have proven themselves to lead to better discussions.

1st spot seems like a fold.  The guy’s isolation is big, and he isn’t folding often enough to make this profitable.  People aren’t isolating limpers as often or as light as you think.

Hand 2 — if you are going to raise out of position in this spot, you have to make it a lot more than you did to discourage the button from coming along.  I probably re-raise to 1/3rd of my remaining stack so I have enough left on the flop to shove if he happens to calls.  More likely than not, you are taking it down pre-flop in this spot with your 3-bet.  You can never ever fold once putting in your raise, though.  A shove is a decent option, as well.

ty for the answer but in this particular hand, is not a isolation from the CO, he is shoving his 5bb’s stack… probably this fact change your answer 😛

thanks for the comments !!

and in the future it will be one hand at the time 🙂

Last general questions about this kind of situations…

With 20-25 bb’s, Is it correct to play tighter on our 3bet shove spot near the bubble ,  compare to when we reach the money?  I mean, i know we play for the win and we need to put pressure on opponents but the chips we gained when our 3bet work compare when we’ll be out of the tourney is it worth it?

should it be a more optimal strategie to wait to reach the money before putting people to the test ?

Hope my question is clear cause english is not my first languages,

ty
