So i just read the guide lines for posting new topics, and had to re edit my post 4 times. haha, im getting there. (sorry about the heading/title)

Anyway, this was in the late stages of the Big $55 (100k) on stars. About 35 to go. I had a very tight image myself and UTG+1 (17/13/20.0) had 3 bet me 3 hands before and i folded. The button had been quite active player (22/21/11.8)

Poker Stars $50+$5 No Limit Hold'em Tournament – t1800/t3600 Blinds + t450 – 8 players
TournamentPokerEdge.com Hand History Converter

MP1: BB = 76.4, t275075
MP2: BB = 37.8, t135996
CO: BB = 24.2, t87159
BTN: BB = 24.7, t89003
SB: BB = 31.8, t114459
BB: BB = 31.0, t111554
Hero (UTG): BB = 30.6, t110116
UTG+1: BB = 33.6, t121088

Pre Flop: (t9000) Hero is UTG with 6 of spades 6 of clubs
Hero raises to t7200, UTG+1 raises to t12500, 3 folds, BTN calls t12500, 2 folds, Hero calls t5300

Flop: (t46500) 7 of diamonds 5 of diamonds 4 of hearts (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets t28800, BTN raises to t61600, Hero folds, UTG+1 raises to t94400, BTN calls t14453 all in

A few things, firstly, is my preflop raise there wrong, should i just fold. After the over call, should i just fold and once the flop comes do you ever go with it, or was my fold right? tricky spot, any advice would be great!

Thanks

hey welcome!

preflop i am just folding this UTG, with our stack size we just are never going to be getting the right price to set mine here, and you cant feel great about getting it in preflop and unless we hit a set we arnt ever happy (you get arguably the 2nd best flop and still folded)…i dont like rejamming pre over the raise, as once button flats i think it starts to look squeezy and you will get called wider, and not sure if we want this flip for tons of chips at thsi point in the tournament.

as played i am probably flatting preflop as its only 5k more to win like 42k after button flats, so im never folding now

fwiw i think at this stage of the tourney and our stack size im only openeing 66 from MP2 or later…curious what others think

First of all, welcome.  This is a great site and the comments you will get from the members, pros owners are wonderful!  Most, if not all, of them have far more experience and are light years better than I am, but this is how I see the hand.

With 30BBs and having a low/mid PP UTG I fold here.  Reason………you are first to act and will play the pot out of position plus the stacks just aren't deep enough to effectively set mine.

Some questions for you, when you are opening this hand, what are you hoping they have when you get called?  A flip at best?  When/if you are raised, what would you be raised by? Again, flip at best.  Another question for you, what was you plan when you opened?  If the BTN had not called, would you have called the UTG+1 raise? After you flatted the over call, what was the plan?  This is about the best flop you could hope for, why not lead?  If you are not going to fire or go broke on a flop like this, lay it down to start with and save the chips.

I know for me it is tough to fold these types of hands when I am this deep in a tourney, but as I learn more from TPE and try to think beyond the fact that I have a pair it just doesn't play that well in this situation.  Now, if more people were 50+BB stacks, I like it, but not with these stacks.

Thanks 🙂

Well due to the dynamics of the table and my perceived range, i was playing really tight, and hadnt played any hands for a rotation or 2. I was hoping to pick up the blinds and maybe get into a 4 bet jamming spot, but again prob bad.

Your points are competely true and agree with all of them. i suppose i didnt have much of a plan at the time and should of just folded pre.

If the button didnt call i prob would of folded, which is bad as well.

Thanks again 🙂

Always have a plan

before you open or 3bet a guy, think if I do this and he does this what am I gonna do? ect. ect. Such a golden flop Id be leading and jamming to a 3bet on this flop/ but overall yes dont get into a hand unless you have a plan for certain boared textures giving your position with your hand.

perfect flop for you.

yeah i also think i wont fold on that flop. this is one of the best flops you could hope for, so if you fold here its better to just fold pre.

preflop its definetly a tough spot with 30bb utg and this hand,  but with your image i would also open.

I agree as well with the community in regards to folding pre, but with the way played, I probably check shove drawing to my 10 outs and look away:)

I would fold pre flop with that stack, not deep enough to set it big time.

But on the flop i would have to got with it, just because this is as good flop as u expect to hit a set.

If i raise pre flop, i have in mind that if i get in spots like that, and i flop that way, i gonna go with my hand 100% of the time.

Just like dynamicpro said, always have a plan.
