If your trying to learn or grasp the game like you say, then it probably wouldn't be too wise to have like 7 or 8 tables going at once.  Granted you will sweat many more hands and come across different situations quicker than compared to playing only 1 tourney at a time.  But if your not learning from your mistakes, then your just throwing away money.

If you're really trying to focus then only do as many tables as you are confident with in thinking as much as possible.  Over time, you will get more comfortable and be able to add more and more tables in because the decisions will get easier.

Your best bet is to start with one table until you start to get a hang for things.  Once that happens, slowly add tables one at a time.  I usually find that anything voer six makes my head explode, and I've been most situations and been playing for years.  Don't feel like you need to play as many tables as possible.  Just go at your own pace.

poker is a game that needs to be played mistake free. because the same mistake can be amplified based on how deep you are in a tourney. my suggestion is to keep it to a minimum and when you feel you are playing mistake free add another table. the only issue i have with multi tabeling is not getting solid reads on players and hurrying thru decisions if you feel that you are compromiseing the tourneys you are in scale back until you feel totally comfortable. hand volume will take your game to the next level quicker but if the poker your playing is not getting the attention it needs per hand then your actually takeing a step backwards at a price (your Bankroll)
