This hand is from a tournament that I just shipped (excuse my bragging :))

Going through the hands I think I messed this one up a bit.. I find spots like this a bit confusing when I have to make quick decisions

I think the better play might have been a small bet on the flop, because there are so many bad cards that can show up on the turn and then check and bluff catch on the turn once the ace hits.

At the time I was thinking that I would get called by a king on the flop most of the time, since he doesn’t have many 3s and 2s here so I checked, although flush draws and lower pocket pairs would have called too. On the turn I bet to represent an ace, which looking back on it seems pretty bad since most of the hands that I fold out I already beat. Although there might be a point in value betting to make flush and straight draws pay. What are your thoughts?

My initial thoughts are that you may be able to rep the ace there, but as you said…why bother? By betting you only fold out hands you already got beat. As my ex-coach used to say…once you have set a strategy for the hand you should usually stick with it. Having said that the delayed cbet on the ace has to look strong. At least you’ll know 100% here when you are beat. I might be 10000% off here as I am fairly inebriated…just got a 19th in the Big 8.80 and its hurting!

I usually bet flop, and that A on turn card as well, so two barrel, not sure in this case, cause of V´s stack, maybe a small bet otf and try to pot control oop… don´t like my lines very much actually.

I like the analysis from the OP. Betting flop is appealing, you shouldn’t be in terrible shape when called and you do benefit some from V’s folds. I’d be more likely to check a more resilient pair like QQ. The prob with repping the A is V could actually have it and you still mostly just get folds when you’re already ahead. I’d check-fold turn, now you’re just behind a ton of V’s range and shouldn’t be trying to put money in the pot at all. His call with 55 is really bad and you’re lucky that’s all he had – goes to show why trying to get him off a K by “repping an Ace” wasn’t going to work 😉

This board should favor us over the flatter with his stack size as he would gii pre with top part of range.

I would bet flop as 99 is vulnerable to over cards plus with this exact combo we want protection from flush draws.

once called on flop i would follow consider a triple barrel on this run out

We are far down in our range on river and should have not much showdown value
