Hi all,

1st post so trying my best to get it right, I have just moved to playing mtts from sngs and I am trying to build a solid game, I am playing the micros mtts on stars to get use to  them and practice the things I’m learning from the videos.

This hand came up and I would be very happy if I could get some feed back as regards to my play if it’s very bad over all or what I am missing fundamentally, bet sizing poor bluff spot ect?

Villain was playing 32 6 over 15 hands and raised the last 4 hands in a row, I just been moved to the table not long ago so few reads

Thanks for your help.  Jacob.

Hey Jacob,

Welcome to TPE…Great Post.  In this spot imo, I probably just fold pre.  Sure you are deep enough to call pre, but I probably look to do this if there is another caller in the hand.  I am looking to minizime the hands I play oop.  If you do call, you will need to know how you are going to proceed post.  I know that the villain has been playing aggro as of late (last 4 hands-have you been able to see any hands at showdown?), but now he is opening utg which/should minimizes his range.

The way played, you did flop the flush draw and a backdoor straight draw which gives equity in your hand.  I think I like a semi bluff donk of about .60% of pot….now you are controling the pot and depending on how the villain plays you can start minimize the range of hands he may hold.  How the hand was played when you check, the villain's c bet of just over 1/2 pot, I will peel to see if I hit my flush or gain more outs.  Depending on what falls on the turn, I will check and reevaluate.  By c/c the flop you may even get a free card on the turn from the villain who was c betting with air.  By c/r the flop now you are ballooning the pot and are preparing to get it in on a 10 high flush draw (which may still be behind to a higher flush draw).

I don't want to spew my chips in this spot with how deep you started the hand.   With the way played, the turn bet continues your story while trying to see a cheap card on the river..if raised you can safely fold as well.  However on the river, I just check fold giving up on the hand preserving my tourney.  In a $2 micro, you are not pushing the villain off the hand, and more times than not you are beat.

I hope this helps…best of luck at the tables.

Listen to Terbet11 he is correct. Think he is only folding his own missed flush or straight draw, dought he is folding any K. After the turn call, I am probably throwing in the towel on this hand. When you are so deep, why risk your entire stack on a bluff?

So did he call your shove?

If he’s a losing player I don’t try to make a move on him here but if he’s a winning player I don’t mind ripping it in like this even though it’s a huge pot.

A good, winning player will be able to fold 1 pair here regularly because he’ll assign you a range that includes sets and KQ.

Sure, you might get looked up but when you think of an entire range that your line could be I only see KQ and AA looking you up when you jam the river. AK should really be folding here a lot.

The problem is what I mentioned in my first sentence. You’re running a very strong line in a mtt where big moves aren’t needed so it comes down to playing a style that matches the playing field.

You don’t really need to take higher variance spots in low buy in mtt’s where everyone sucks and are only playing the strength of their own hand.

And, most importantly, you want to take creative lines and make moves when you are in position and not out of position at low and midstakes mtt’s.

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback and its definitely helped me in this type of spot, he had KTo and tank called the river, but as you have all said, thats what is going to happen at the micros so ABC play gets the job done better.

Thanks again for your help.

Jacob.

I like your pre and flop plays.  Donk betting as suggested is interesting but usually gets very littel respect so I prefer the check raise even thoguh more expensive.  Payout is better as you get the cbet money many times and it is a stronger play.  you can simply bet when checked to as well.

I am checking/calling turn.  and shutdown on river when missing.  no need to risk 40 bbs on a bluff here.  he has not shown much weakness or willingness to fold (love the risky river play on say a live tourney or higher buyin tourney as this play would be successful many times, but at micros not sure).

also, I find it this deep sometimes 3 betting suited connectors and then leading this kind of flop is a good line thoughts on that all?

if you ever play the game of golf you may have heard the analogy that trees are 90% air, well so are 3 barrells, just an observation and the % may be high but ive noticed in my time that 3 barrells is 90% air.
