Hey guys put in a session last night on Merge.  This was the 30r.  I was very tight at this table after doubling up at my previous table to a large stack.  The OR was very loose agg and opening a ton.  The rest of the players were standard bad players on this network that call too much.

Normally, in position i'd raise up the 99 here and clear out the field and try to get HU with the big stack opener an use position but being in the blind i am a bit uncomfortable making the raise size necessary to clear people out.  However, if i just call here I am almost always folding post unless i hit a set turning a relatively strong hand given the situation to a flop dependent one.

Thoughts on how to proceed pre?

I like just flatting here. You would have to size your 3 bet pretty big to try to effectively iso, then the OR is gonna be in a perfect spot to 4bet shove. Wouldn't mind getting it in vs his 32bb stack, but MP3 with his big stack, could be bad enough

to just flat a shove by the OR. Then your gonna be be forced to play a big pot oop vs prob at least a couple of opps whos range you really have not been able to narrow, assuming they are not very good.

Even if the OR doesn't squeeze, your gonna be first to act in a spot where the flop is usually gonna have one or two overs and is gonna be tough to play even vs bad players.

I would def play this cautiously and put in as little as possible in order realize your equity by seeing the flop.

it would depend for me on what stage of the tourney it is. Early in the tourney you might get everyone flatting you no matter what you raise, so i call. Later on you might get more respect and might even take it down pre, so i prefer the raise.

i dont mind set mining OOP or squeezing to thin the field. Looks like a prime opportunity to squeeze because the OR is so loose and the rest are so weak. If i raise im usually rasing it to around 3k maybe more since your OOP and take it from there.

I dont think either option is a mistake. The only problem is you should already know what you would do if you were 4bet jammed on by OR or BTN, that would be read dependant im most likely folding

As you say players call  too much (on Merge) so a 3bet is prob. a waste of chips in this spot as you likely get called anyway and have to give up on any overcard flop being oop. I can't comment on the level of play at the $30r as I play < $20 freezes and < $10 rebuys on merge and in spots like this I'm playing pretty ABC (sorry TTWIST) which works at the lower stakes. If they are “standard bad players” my default is not to play too fancy but look for opportunities to stack them.

Yeah I ended up just calling and folded on an AQ4 flop.

It's really close and with TT I'd definitely 3b and hope to get it in with the OR. I couldn't blame you for doing it here, although I tend to agree with Marinko and would call.

I agree with everyone here. Think a 3bet is not gonna thin out the players much here and then you are playing out of position against calling stations that will not respect a cbet. Well played RFB!
