Hey grinders,

Have a hand here where I think the standard line is to check back a street but I want to hear opinions on whether or not its okay to go for thin value here on river. I don’t like my river bet sizing given villains short stack. I think I should have either jammed to make it look more bluffy or bet like 1/3 pot. half pot is the worst option it seems. If you don’t like a triple barrel then do you prefer a turn check back/river bet, or turn bet/river check back? I’ll give my thoughts on what I think his range is after i hear some feedback. thanks

Villain was running 22/17 over 175 hands.

I think you'll get looked up by some worse Tx and maybe even hands like 77 and 99. I don't mind the triple barrel because when he checks river it's more of a showdown value hand and less of a missed draw hand (usually).

your river bet looks a bit valuey though, i might bet smaller, like 456, or bigger, say 888 and i think that gets looked up more often to be honest.

think 888 is bad v his stack benny, tbh i dont love the river sizing, much prefer a jam or a super small b/c.

i think this is a great spot to cbet obv, i think this is a great spot to double barrel because 66 77 88 99 all call turn, plus weaker 10x (J10 109 K10 ) and broadways that turned equity (AJ KJ J9) plus clubs draws obv, I think when we check back turn we give the perception that we have SDV so we create a lot less bluffs and he isnt going to vbet 10x on J K A or club rivers (although he should expect us to barrel most fds). So betting turn we get to triple favourable rivers and catch the busted draws bluffs by giving the perception of fold equity.

river is a great card for us as only J9 and 108 got there, and both lead some % of the time. so im happy going for thin value v J10 K10 109 99 77 87cc 89cc

assuming alot of his draws and value hands will jam flop or turn to have fold equity/prevent action killer cards on future streets his hand looks a lot like J10 109.

if you thought he was capable of bluff raise jamming the river with missed draws then betting like 1/5 pot becomes pretty cool.

although he has more weak sdv hands with this line so jamming is better imo.

I don't even have to try anymore because Duggs is nailing it. You're current river sizing looks like its designed for value, so i'd rather go a little bigger. Or small b/c like duggs said is sexy.

Thanks guys. I know my river sizing here was terrible smile. Thats why I wanted to clarify it to begin with. I'm pretty sure I didnt realize he was short stacked (no excuses i know). If he had something like 3-4 k to start the hand then I think 50-60% of pot is fine because it looks a lot less strong than when its for half his stack, and it doesnt look like i will bet/fold.

I thought it was a good spot to barrel turn to get value from draws and worse tens, and then I definitely think we can go for thin value on river. I think we hear from every two pair combo besides 810 before the river, and i dont think he is slowplaying a set or has j9 unless its j9cc. Only hand I was really worried about was qxcc or 810 but I think there are more value hands that he can call us with than beat us. He ended up having aqoff lol. I dont really expect him to float many ace highs oop on this flop. Thanks for the input!

this is a kind of good sizing as a bluff v someone competent, as they cant expect to have any fold equity, and it looks so redic valuey and awkward
