BTN is 26/18 and has raised 5/6 buttons. The raise is kinda big so I didnt wanna 3bet fold.
My plan was to check/call and then lead river if he checked back the turn.
When he didnt cbet, I planned to bet the turn, but didnt because I picked up a draw and didnt wanna get blown off if he was slow playing an A. At this point he either…
1. Has an A. So I will check call the turn and hope he doesnt have the K or Q of clubs if I hit
2. Doesnt have an A. So I will check and expect him not to bet the turn in which case I will lead the river.
When he bet the turn I figured he had an ace and I would need to catch the club.
Overall I think I butchered this hand. Now I think maybe I have to lead the turn and fold to a raise there, but I dont know if this is better than folding pre or 3bet folding pre.

I like the flat preflop vs. his wide button opening range. You can 3b/f because he seems to be opening wide in LP, but I think flatting is the standard play as long as we can make moves postflop. His sizing is a bit big, but it seems that it does not signify a stronger preflop range because he steals so often. JTo plays well postflop against his range so I think we should peel.
I like that you had a plan after the flop even though he did not cb the flop like you expected. I think most players bet their air on the flop because it is a heads up pot and the board is very dry. When a player checks back the flop, I think they usually have a slowplayed ace, a pot controling pocket pair, or king high trying to get to showdown.
Once we get to the turn I think we should either lead or x/f. I do not like x/c with a weak draw and a no showdown value. We are never going to win the pot on the river without hitting a club or sometimes when we hit a pair. I would be more inclined to lead turn with the intention to double barrel river if we had the Kc or Qc or if we had a broadway draw to go along with it as well. Also, it is very unlikely your turn lead will ever be raised after the flop checked through. I wouldn't worry about a turn bluff raise unless you are playing a very capable player.
Leading turn with the intention to x/r river or x/r turn are also valid options, but I wouldn't use them too often without a good read on my opponent. As played, I would lean towards leading turn against players who cb flop with all of their value hands and x/f turn against good players who are capable of playing tricky and floating. Reads on how your opponent plays would help a lot on your turn decision.
