I decided to write something really quick on the ” Mental Game ” I've seen in live poker and online poker, people doing something I call ” Blowing up and blowing off ” This is not the best way to win tournaments.

I've learned this the hard way, but throwing mouses through monitors and break a whole lotta things. I've got this under control now, after playing a few circuit events and realizing that when you can't just late reg

the next tourney, then it's allot more important to keep your cool. Everyone loses to ” Coolers ” or those lovely 80 / 20 hands.. but for everyone one of those hands you lose, you win another that you weren't

suppose to. Poker is Mentally the biggest part of poker, you can nerd out all the math you want.. if you blowup then you're done.. I heard this one guy in Philly say.. ” I tilted so hard and jammed hands and ended

up winnning the tournament ” I just laughed and thought about how I could tilt him if I got to his table. If you're going to play live poker, just listen to what people say whether it be at the table or on break.

I heard this other guy complaining about this guy 3 betting his opens all the time and how he had to fold.. ” mental note taken ” is he going to fold to my 3 bet? Maybe, maybe not, but I do know that it frustrates

him and I will use it to my advantage. I played in AC and this kid comes back from blazing a joint and thought it was a good idea to answer his phone and talk to his friend about how he can't talk bc he can't afford

to lose this money, so then I 3 bet him and he fires a 4 bet, I reshove on him he gets pissed and folds… Would I normally make that play with KQ suited? Probably not, but being deep enough to know he doesn't

want to bust before the money sure helped. I believe the littlest bit of information is key at the poker table. Oh and last thing if someone ever talks about how much money they've won in online poker at a live

tournament… I believe you're allowed to kick them in the pills, most of them are liars.. if not then I've talked to allot of players who've won millions online pffffftttttt #fishing. Well this was more of just motivation

to keep everyone off tilt and thinking about any read you can pick up off someone that some players don't think about..

Marc and I talked a ton about being fit (both mentally and physically) and how important it is for poker.  I think we'll discuss this in more detail on an upcoming TPE live we are going to do as soon as gets home from Vegas.  stay tuned!

It's a huge part of the game. I was thinking about making a blog for the Mental side of the game. I've wrote some little post on different sites and have had a great feedback on all of them. Thankyou for all that Psych training Highscool haha

great insite… It has been one of the biggest things I have had to overcome in my game “tilt” .. I believe I have come a long way since I started .. yelling at avatars of pandas and ninjas. I coach soccer and am always referencing the mental aspects of poker to my players to prepare them for games> MENTAL FITNESS IS HUGE. Great post!!!!!!!!!

Nice advice guys, I was in similar situation when started playing, jumped in the deep end playing mid-stakes cash, tilted off good amount of $ there.  For some reason very rarely tilt when playing mtt's, hence here I am working purely on improving mtt skills.

Also have a question regarding live tourneys.  For example I'm looking to play the ept Barcelona, there is day's 1a and 1b.  Is it possible to buy in on both 1a and 1b, then combine stacks for day 2?  I played a rpt in kiev few months ago and this was possible, so I assume that's standard for most live tourneys?

I'm pretty sure that you can't do this. I know they won't let you in the WSOPc, so I assume it's a rule for most poker tours. I've never played and EPTs though, so they might have a different rule.

I believe they're called repecharge tournaments, you can build your chips up on seperate day 1's and combine them all into one big stack on day 2.

From a personal view, I was once very prone to tilt. I think it was because i thought i was always the best at my table, and I 'deserved' to win. So if my bluff didnt work, or my hand got sucked out on, i would lose the plot and berate the player. Now, many years later, I think i've killed the beast. Like bennymacca said, once you learn to accept the fact that you are going to lose hands when you're a 90% favorite, and that people who are not as good as you are going to beat you on the odd occasion, then you can focus more on the important things like working on your game, which ultimately leads you to becoming a better player, and having better success.

repecharge tournaments are basically like rebuys. re-entry is prolly the most correct term for them

there also tourneys called accumulators, which is what you are talking about
