Not a badbeat story, there are legit questions in here cool

Last night I was in a little warm-up and usually feel very confident/+ev in tournaments $150 and less… I played $150 fo, 69 entries, 5k starting stack, 30 min blinds, every 2hr breaks. Last night I was card dead for hours at a time. I was able to chip up after losing 1/2 my stack making some moves and losing str8<flush. I began chipping up through 3 weaker players and get up to 10K going into first break. After break antes kick in, 2 bigger stacks and more competent players at the table on my left–then get smacked with worst cards in the deck for 2 levels 72, J2o, 49, etc… I was able to iso and bluff weaker player w 103 just to gain some of my chips back, but other than that I truly didnt even get a hand as good as suited gapper or any face–Essentially I was getting blinded out. I get down to like 12BB and wake up with 99 on Bu–MP+1 (19BB) opens 2.5x, CO calls (30bb). So I jam thinking that I might have FE on my side and trying to maximize the hand. Both players just moved to the table and havent seen that Ive been knitting sweaters for hours at a time.

Smaller pairs, Ax, and some broadways in their range IMO but they were new to the table… Can I ever fold there? What can you do when going completely card dead for such a long time?

Never folding here. You have a decent amount of FE here and with a flat it makes your jam look like a squeeze so you are getting called with much worse quite a lot imo. Plus the obv fact you only have 12 bb's I'm never folding. Going card dead happens quite a lot. It sounds like you did well picking good 3b spots and outplaying weaker players IP. That's about all you can do when card dead.

^^^ agree. usually you don't have to worry about the flatter (unless he is competent setting up squeeze with aa or kk) and your squeeze puts OR in an awkward spot. 99 is crushing ranges here and is pretty much a cooler from your stack if up against better.
