Had this spot in The Big $8.80 tournament on Stars today and wanted some thoughts and opinions on it.

No big reads on villian (hadnt seen a showdown) but was running 16/10 over 52 hands.

I'm flatting pre, raising the cbet, and folding if he comes over the top.

88 doesn't get to the river as the best hand very often and I think just calling 3 streets and hoping to be good isn't playing very well. I really doubt he jams an unpaired hand over the top of you with those stats.

I also like just flatting pre.

As played, I like checking turn. You have good showdown value and no need to bloat pot. Eval river.

I don't mind your 3bet, but I prefer just call pre too. I would check behind on the turn. As played you have to fold to his shove.

Aggression is a usefull tool in poker, but blind aggression is going to lose you money fast. Whenever you are thinking about making a bet, you need to ask yourself what you’re trying to achieve. It seems to me that you made a big mistake in this hand on the turn, not because you bet, but because you didn’t have a plan for what you were trying to acheive with this bet.

As a general line, as played, checking behind on the turn is probably the best play. You save money when your beat, and you actually give yourself a chance to get value from the weaker hands in his range by giving him the opportunity to bluff the river.

That being said, there are times when it might be more profitable to bet the turn with the intention of calling a shove vs certain opponents with alot of history and an aggressive dynamic.

Whatever the case may be, the most important thing is to have a plan before you bet (or check).

i think if you are going to 3bet pre make it at least 2700, clicking it back means villain is always going to call.

also agree with checking back turn to eval river. prolly checking if checked to on the river too
