Wanted to get a few peoples thoughts on this in general. Its not really about a specific hand but when is the optimal time to start doing this? In my mind its fairly tight standard play early on and open up the game later on should you have a stack. I think if you have 40 bb plus we have room to use our chips and use the “light 3 bet” vs various opponents. I.E a big stack raising with 30, 35, 30 and 25 bb stacks behind is a good spot to 3 bet light as hes never committed to show down vs any of these players including us.
How large should the blinds have to be to make this profitable? (maybe this is the wrong question idk) I know this is quite a vague post but im looking to open up my game late on in tournaments and not be card reliant. After watching Daryl's Jace's last vid he seems to find the spots very well (blockers etc) but he started to light 3 bet when hes on 50 bb + at 500 1 k. Do you think you could be light 3 betting from as low as 125 250 when your on 40 odd bigs? I mean these are still mid staages of the tourny so in my opinion its probs better to wait till the 500 1 k level i.e btn on bb spots, game flow, dynamics, stack sizes , image etc.
Again nothing too specific just trying to start up a discussion on this and get peoples thoughts on this concept.

125/250/antes on Merge is when I usually start 3b'ing lightly and since most Merge mtt's really suck for structure I'll do it with as low as 22-25 bb's and sometimes even slightly less depending on the opener.
It's almost impossible to have 40 bb's anywhere in the antes period of a Merge mtt which is a real shame, because you're basically playing a really big sit n go.
The blinds don't have to be a certain level in order for a light 3-4bet. Antes should be in most of the time thats pretty much all that matters. My suggestion to you is to experiment with this in your game and find out what works best for you. What works for one individual isn't necessarily going to work for everyone for this subject. The reason behind light 3 betting is to set up an image in which we become active to mix up our ranges and cause others to spaz against us the times we do “have it” aka premiums. It is not all about what is right or wrong here. It is about table dynamics, player dependant, good spots, putting akward stacks in tough pos that when you 3bet them light, player either has to jam or fold and pretty much “have it” against you unless they are on another level etc. For example, yesterday in the $11r I 3bet a guy from EP with K9s and we got to showdown. I stayed active for a while, and 3bet him again not too long after with 44 for value and got him to 4bet light, in which I 5bet jammed and he snapped KQo… lol. Just saying I don't think anyone can “teach” this as such. You need to play a ton of volume and incorporate some light 3 and 4 bets into your game in different positions and stacks and figure out what works for you.
