I did this before and it got alot of good discussion going so I figured I would do it again with another interesting hand I played. Feel free to weigh in on both hands. Same as before I have hid my cards
I’ll give it a shot and get us started:
PF and FLOP bets and call really don’t narrow down their ranges much. It’s an UTG open but it’s 6 handed,
Bigdog has 30 bbs and villain 42.
So other than real trash I think Bigdog can be playing any two. The villains range might be a bit more defined as
he is in utg+1 PF but not knowing much at least you
need to give him Any ace any broadway, any pair,
suited connectors, suited one and 2 gappers, and unsuited connectors. Since he did not 3 bet, premium
Hands like
TT+, AK , Aqs are less likely.
FLOP: on such a dry Ace high flop I think Bigdog is C-Betting 90% or more of his range.
And the villain is probably calling most of his range as well, there is no real draw out there to worry about
TURN: the check from the BigDog should initially indicate Big hands he wants to check raise like Big
draws, AK, K9, K5, Sets ( I still would
include AA, KK, 99, and the bigdogs here).
And some of the time air (although I don’t see the bigdog giving up that easily)
Villains raise of 2500 into a pot that should be 7068 seems like a value raise to me, more prone towards
Diamonds than made hands but both nonetheless, so: Any Ace,
any set , Any D draw, some Kings,
some air (AA, KK AK NOT in this range most of the time since he didn’t 3bet PF though)
RIVER: Bigdog checks with Air giving up some of the time, Checks with Marginal Value most of the time, and
some cases he will check bigger hands like sets to induce
bluffs, but this seems much less likely due
to losing value from marginal hands that check behind but call a bet.
Villain bets almost pot (11500 into 12068) which seems still in line with the previous range, although he might
have bet less with draws
b feeling he achieves the same fold equity, but the second check from bigdog might have encourage some bluffs as well. So I still give him Any Ace, any set, Any draw,
some Kings, some air.
If I’s the bigdog I am calling with any Ace or better, If I'm the villain I'm folding to a shove unless
I have 2 pair or better
First off I'm guessing this is a mid to HS tourny on Stars where utg+1 is a winning reg. I'm also guessing you've probably played with this villian before but I'll just think of him as a random.
Prefop: BD utg open range A2s+ KJo+ KTs+ 22+ 56s+. UTG+1 calling range AT AJ JTs QJs KQs 22-88. AQ+ and 99+ I'm probably 3betting. I could also see him flatting here with KK and AA at an aggressive table as it's a pretty decent spot for someone to squeeze.
Flop: I'd expect you to cbet anything you opened with. utg+1's call with btn still behind is AT+ 55 99 KK AA. Unless my ranging is off pre in which case it could be 98s T9s.
Turn: You're ck looks weak like an under pair that's giving up or a hand like KQ or KTs, KJs that's picked up some showdown value and wants to get to the river cheap. I could also put you on AT+ 55 99 AA and KK and you're checking to allow him to bet weaker aces and pairs that would fold to another bet and maybe call a river bet. His bet of 2500 into 7068 could be anything he called the flop with. when you call it narrows your range to KJs KQs A2s+ 55 99 AA KK. I think you're check/shoving combo draws like JTdd QJdd knowing you can take down the pot most of the time and have alot of outs if called.
River: Your check tells me nothing more about your hand range than your call on the turn. If you have a big hand you aren't getting called by much if you bet the river. By checking you get him to bluff with a weak hand or he can check behind and let you get to showdown with a hand that has a little showdown value. His bet on the river polarizes his hand to something like AQ AK 55 99 88 or a hand that can't win if he checks. With 20bb left I'm folding everything but AQ two pair or a set here.
Please let me know what you think as I haven't done this much thinking on a hand in a long time and I'm working on my hand reading skills
Hey guys so for the results i really just stay in here on the turn to make a river steal. I have 78 of hearts and I pick up some small showdown value on the river. I felt he was full of it the whole time so I just called the
river bet. Thought I could be good he had 42 of spades 🙂 Thanks for playing guys
