I had been waiting for a half decent hand to shove and finally woke up with one. The villain was fishy running at 48/18 but I hadn't seen him 3x at these blind levels so it set off warning bells. Obviously if I shove he'll call and my feeling based on his raise size is at best I'll be facing two overs and am quite probably crushed by a higher pair. But even with that feeling, do I still have to take this spot due to my pathetic stack size?

Yeah pretty much what Duggs said, just treat his raise as a shove vs our stack when this short.

I am jamming that hand. I think the 3x is going to be a medium strength hand way more often than a premium. In my experience it is going to be AJ+ and 77-JJ a lot. Against that range you are doing fine. Either way I think you are too short to fold that hand to almost any action.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I didn't expect anyone to tell me to fold but I wanted to be sure. If he had jammed rather than 3x'd I'd have snap called. I know the guy's a bad player but when he 3x'd I felt he wanted a caller and did tank a little before deciding I didn't have much choice and jammed. It turns out he had KK which reinforced my initial feeling and left me somewhat confused at to the best play.

I know I shouldn't be results orientated and it was great to get all of your feedback so that I didn't convience myself it was a bad call. Of course if he'd have had 2 overs then I wouldn't have thought twice about my initial feeling on the 3x – annoying how the mind works.

Under 10bb, I do a little dance when I get this hand and rip it in.

At 48/18 I am sure that his range is real wide generally, but if he 3xes I see where you are coming from. In this case it really is a betting tell very often and you can store it for future correct response (folding) As long as he does not deviate and gets it in with low pockets too etc, I can understand why you would fold that spot.

So, allthough I agree with the other commentators that 1010 normally is a no brainer <10bb to just reshove with, I still respect the plays where a CLEAR betting tell from a fish OR a total nit with like 3/3 in 80 hands would lead to a crying fold.. Imo a fold would be slightly +EV in these specific! situations.

A total nit with a shortstack will widen his range too in the end so in the 2nd example the referred play would even get more rare, as you would reshove that guy only if the nit has a great stack and ur read is apparently spot on on him in these situations.

Not responding to betting tells from a fish that announces a real BIG hand is a deviation from optimal play though in my view, so in this case i would still call to confirm this but fold all future references where the same situation occurs vs this particular player.

I think that the reasons given above validate the exception to the standard reshove/call line.
