Hi TPE members,

This is my first post here at TPE and until now i have been a very passive user of the site, trying to absorb as much info as I can.

The tournament is a micro stake $0.55 400GTD because i'm trying to get as many hands in at a low price. (only have a $50 bankroll)

I really want your input regarding the line of this hand.

The tournament is in the first 30 mins and a few ppl at the table busted out doubling FIREMAN804

Additional hud info regarding players

incor75: (22 hands) VPIP:67, PFR:19

Pre Flop: (t120) Hero is SB with Q of clubs K of diamonds
5 folds, incor75 calls t80, 1 fold, Hero raises to t160, 1 fold, incor75 calls t80

Flop: (t400) 3 of clubs 2 of clubs 5 of clubs (2 players)
Hero bets t230, incor75 calls t230

Turn: (t860) 3 of diamonds (2 players)
Hero checks, incor75 checks

River: (t860) 8 of spades (2 players)
Hero checks, incor75 checks

I would really like some input reagarding the Cbet size or if it would be a better ideea just to check and not spend more chips in this hand.

I was really trying to get him to fold after the flop but i guess the size of the CBet didn't accomplish that.

Also is it wise to open this hand this early in the tournament?

Thanks,

Kilavolts

I think as played is fine IMO. I tend to fold hands like these this early in a tourney especially from the SB and a lot depending on limpers. Based on the HUD info it looks like villain is limp calling a ton just to see some flops. I think the c bet size is fine you have a good amount of equity and I don’t think you mind him calling here and checking it down once we miss is pretty standard by most players this early. However in my own experiance I’ve seen a ton of players at this level float the flop and give up to a second barrel. Chances are he has a wide range here trying to smash a flop on us. Since he checks it down I’d assume the obvious of any ace and a medium club draw. In the future I think a fold here is best.

Hi, thanks for posting in the forums! It really is a better way to learn than just reading.

Start with a larger 3-bet. KQ should be in pretty good shape against a CO opening range, which means Villain will be forced either to fold often to your 3-bet or to call with hands weaker than KQ. Those are both good outcomes for you. Against an extremely tight opponent, I'd fold this, but 3-betting should be your default. Just use a large size, because your raise gives your opponent a good price to call with any hand, so he'll never make a mistake against you. I'd raise to 240.

The flop sizing is fine. You shouldn't assume that you made a mistake just because you didn't get the outcome you wanted. It's quite possible that your opponent just had a hand he wasn't going to fold, even if you bet 300 or 400.

I'd fire again on the turn. You have a lot of equity against your opponent's range, which will consist of Ax (ahead of you, but not by a lot, especially if he doesn't a better club than yours), medium pocket pairs (you're drawing to 14 – 15 outs), and maybe some worse draws than yours. I don't expect your opponent to fold often, but you don't need him to because you have so much equity even when he calls.

As played, I think it's worth betting something like 300 on the river trying to make your opponent fold Ax. If he's very loose, then checking and giving up is fine.

Thank you both Foucault and Kilavolts for your feedback

@Foucault i agree with you on the 3bet sizing as i realised he was deep stacked and was very unlikely for him to fold his hand given the fact that it was cheap to see the flop.

Great feedback

You're welcome. I actually misread the hand a bit, thought Villain had raised rather than limped. Against a CO open limp, this is an absolutely mandatory raise (he probably raises the only hands that dominate you), and you should raise a bit larger than I suggested, like 280 – 400.
