At one time people were more likely to check it down when there was no side pot, and getting to showdown with all players increases the chances a player is eliminated. In addition, you could infer strength from a bet with no side pot because if you fold it forces them to show their hand.
It seems like both of these occurrences happen less often, and I’d like to understand why. I’m guessing it has to do with the remaining villain with chips being likely to call you with worse and that it doesn’t matter that someone else is all in.
My point is that your thinking is all centered around folding when you should be thinking, on the flop, about getting value from a very strong hand. On this turn, it’s an easy check and fold to a strong bet like this one.
As for betting into dry side pots, it’s not some arbitrary question of style that can change over time. People have no incentive to bluff when they aren’t likely to beat the all in player. However, there are cases where they might be able to beat the all in player and get the third player to fold the best hand, and in those cases it can be worth betting.
