Hey guys this hand i think my mistake was on the river. I should have betted there.

I had no reads on villain. When he calls the bet on flop i'm putting him on some K's, A9, 9T, 89, Q9, J9 ,straight draws. Of course there is the slowplay possibility

After he checks on turn again i thought it was best to control the size of the pot, it makes more hands for him and puts me on a tough decision in case he raises there.

On the river thats where i think was my mistake. He checks again and that shows me that he is on a marginal holding that i can extract more chips despite the fact that the A on river was good for my range.

When i check he shows 79.

Anyway, what you guys think? Would have made different?

Looking forward to see the thoughts.

I wish you wouldn't have posted the result, but I was going to tell you that I thought you misplayed the turn.  When he floats the flop, there really is no reason to check behind with this texture and his stack size without a good read.

I think a 1/3 pot stab on the turn was the right move and then probably re-evaluate river…..probably calling most rivers.

I think you played it fine, and I don't like a river bet unless we think villain is defending the BB really wide; I think anything less than a K from his spot will be folding, so pretty much just KT and maybe like K8s?

thanks guys for answers,

jommon, i agree with you until some extent but guess he could call with QJ, QT Q8s, KT, K8s but we never know. Maybe a 1/3 pot bet on river would have worked who knows. Main thing is that i guess all the best hands he would be betting the river (KQ, K9, straight, etc) and i shouldnt be missing some spots where marginal holdings would pay.

But thanks a lot, is good to see other ppl thought process

Would go a little bigger on the flop, maybe around 400. Would maybe bet turn too but checking is okay if we're going to be most rivers. Not sure I like a river bet though because this is enough of a scare card that it makes betting a reverse freeroll – it changes the board enough that he basically never calls with worse, even though he rarely has better. I'm fine with checking turn if we bet most rivers that aren't an ace, but the ace is a tough card for us to get value on.

It's also important to note that the title of this thread shouldn't be “KJ vs marginal hand” because what the villain actually had is irrelevant, and you didn't know it going into the hand. It should be “KJ thin value river spot” or something similar.
