no particular history, villain just got on my table some hands ago, he opened 3 of 6 hands

Poker Stars $150+$12 No Limit Hold'em Tournament – t300/t600 Blinds + t70 – 6 players

CO: BB = 30.2, t18100
Hero (BTN): BB = 42.2, t25318
SB: BB = 76.4, t45842
BB: BB = 148.9, t89362
UTG: BB = 16.6, t9930
MP: BB = 29.0, t17376

Pre Flop: (t1320) Hero is BTN with J of hearts A of clubs
2 folds, CO raises to t1600, Hero raises to t3000, 2 folds, CO calls t1400

Flop: (t7320) 4 of clubs 7 of hearts 8 of clubs (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets t3000, CO raises to t6600 hero?

Yeah, I fold.  I need more reads to try to play on here.

Probably agree-fold– but one thing that has me thinking is that he has opened 3 of 6 hands which says to me he's agg and might be robbing us here. But without more to go on than the 3 of 6 (e.g. has he flatted 3 bets? with monsters? when he has, what did he do on the flop?), it is probably just a fold.

I think this is a possibility too, but there are a couple types of aggros.  Is the type that takes shots first in and backs off when met with resistance or is the type that tries to win every hand at any cost?  OP still does not have a read on whether he's a typical LAG, a LAGfish, or a HyperLAG.  Against a LAGfish this is a definite fold, against a LAG this is probably a fold, and against a HyperLAG we might be good, but we need further reads.

On top of all that, we still only have A high.

Fold – the number of times i've not believed a c/r only to find out to my cost I was wrong and you haven't enough info to see if he's just a crazy bastard.  Plus what do you do if the turn doesn't hit you and he bets the turn – you're then regretting the extra 3600 chips you lost on the flop.

thats exactly why calling is imo not really an option, to me its either get it in or fold
but is getting it in really an option without reads or is it a clear fold thats what im asking myself?

@duggs: i would say thats my standard 3b sizing. i dont like checking back on this board cause its like giving up. we cannot rep anything on the turn that we wouldnt have cbet, right? and if villain bets the turn we have to fold.

what hands do you think villain raises here? btw if he just calls he would have a potsize stack left

checking back doesnt have to be giving up, i just think cbetting 100% in 3bet pots because we dont like giving up isnt that great. if we check back here we can jam on his turn bet on and A/J/club/5/6/9/10 and its tough for him. as played, doing anything other than folding to his range is so tough because he has 77-1010 JQcc KQcc A7cc and some other hands that have us in pretty bad shape. sure he could have some air but with no particular history its more likely he has some form of equity on a board as wet as this since you wont be folding 77+ or any overs+flush draw so its more than likely for value/protection. why is your std for 30bb effective less than 2x?

i also dont think this is a mandatory 3bet btw.
