I thin that is a pretty reasonable fold on that spot. What do you think about the 3bet vs flat or a small 3bet?

I look at it this way. After we 3-bet to this size the 4-bet probably doesn’t expect to have much fold-equity. Then the 5-bet shoves knowing all of this as well. I have to think I’m behind two people who don’t care if they put their entire stack at risk in a potential 3-way all-in. I’m thinking at least one, if not both, are QQ+, AQ+. If I hold QQ I may still fold since I block AQ and another QQ, making me think the range is even tighter at KK+, AK+. Best case scenario is both have AK. Plugging in my range estimates where the 4-better may be a little wider with TT+ I get what looks like a pretty clear fold to me:
Hand | Equity | Wins | Ties |
---|---|---|---|
JJ | 26.53% | 156,137 | 6,830 |
TT+,AQ+ | 31.92% | 170,880 | 42,035 |
QQ+,AQ+ | 41.55% | 230,948 | 37,516 |
…This is all read-less but even if 1 may be shoving wide I doubt both are.
I wouldn’t get too results-oriented about what these particular Vs ended up holding. The 5-bet is pretty awful IMO. Here is an adjusted range that represents the implied tendencies of these Vs.:
Hand | Equity | Wins | Ties |
---|---|---|---|
JJ | 35.73% | 208,267 | 12,884 |
99+,AQ+ | 40.08% | 234,127 | 13,365 |
A2s+,AT+,22+ | 24.20% | 141,705 | 7,704 |

I don’t mind the 3-bet at all. Calling this early might induce other players to call behind and we really don’t want to play a multiway pot with JJ.
As played it’s an easy fold and just set up the notes on both players. 99 should fold unless you and opener have loose stats and A3 has no business being involved.
If it folds around to the opener it really depends on his stats. Is he loose, tight etc. and do we have any reads on him. I would likely fold to a shove not wanting to risk 40bb and my tournament on a presumed flip or worse. Best case scenario he has 1010 or 99 and even that is unlikely being that deep and in early position for him to 4bet.
I also think that we act a bit to early to think we can induce a light squeeze. I would have liked a call better if we were on the CO or the BTN.
