I’m 2nd in chips with four remaining in the daily $5K GTD ($25 entry) on BetOnline.  292 entrees on this day.

Payouts:

1st = $1,160

2nd = $860

3rd = $639

4th = $473

Winning reg in CO folds (8bb).

Brand new player to BOL (per Sharkscope) limps his button (34bb).

Winning reg in SB completes (7bb).

I check my option with Qdiamond9spade in the BB (27bb)

I’m a winning player on BetOnline and have won this tourney before.  I always go for the win (although that might get questioned with my passive play in this hand).  The other 3 players had checked the “CHOP” option button, but I didn’t want to chop.  Even with 2 other winning regs remaining, I felt as though I had an edge with my chip stack and the other random new player.

Speaking of random new players…I’d played with the guy on the button earlier in the tourney and noted that he was making unorthodox opens and his bet sizing’s were non-standard.  For example, he opened 4.37x with 20bbs once.  His sizing’s postflop were unpredictable, as he would do everything between a min bet and shove 10x pot.  He was doing much of the same at the FT, opening random sizes as well as limping.  He was the most active player throughout the FT.  We didn’t get to see many of his hands get shown down, so my assumption was that his bet sizes correlated directly to hand strength.

FLOP (3.5bb):  KspadeQclub9spade

I check.  We can certainly debate this check but in game I was thinking about some pot control since there are two very short stacks at our table.  The BTN bets pot and the SB folds.  I call.  We can debate this call as well, but again I was going for pot control and wanted to see a safe turn card.

TURN (10.5bb):  9diamond

Ding ding.  Turn gets checked through.  We can debate the turn check as well, but I didn’t think it was the end of the world as I can still get value on the river with such low SPR’s.

RIVER (10.5bb):  Jspade

My initial reaction is this is an awesome river for my hand, since this completes straight and flush draws (and the random straight flush).   I lead 6.5bb leaving 16bb behind and the BTN shoves.  WTF?! surprised

What’s our action, and why?
