I can add up & do my x's tables, basically the simple parts of math i can do. But i really want to understand more about math in poker. Like when calling a shove the % i need to be profitable etc, the more in depth math.

Is there any books in paticular the pro's read or do you pick it up as you go along?

what is your level of maths in general?

there is a book called the mathematics of poker, but it is pitched at university statistics level basically. i havent read it yet, it has been sitting in my wish list on amazon for ages lol

otherwise, ask some questions! i would say i am reasonably knowledgable and there are definitely others as well that are pretty decent at maths, so set up a scenario and we can work it out

“Tournament killer poker by the numbers” Tony Guerrera… The author is a young maths whiz with the rare ability to simplify complex issues. He also delivered a regular podcast “killerEV” through Rounders Radio awhile back. It’ll be worth checking them out also. Pure poker nerd, and a true gentleman…

IM defo not at that level lol.

I just feel i need to incorporate more math into my game. Like the math theory video i want to understand more of that. I dont have any specific hands to ask, just like if i was in a situation where i had to calculate if i was gettin the right odds to call a shove on flop/turn or fold. I want to be able to calculate that in tough situations.

Cheers guys

Poker math that matters is a good read.
There is also an in depth look into stack sizes
And the equilibrium points for 3 & 4 betting
In the raisers edge.

All good stuff and explained throughly.

the raiser's edge was indeed very good, but it is far from basic maths, so i wouldnt recommend it as a starting point

i'd recommend goi over hh's and have a look at hands where you had to make a decision

have a look at the pot odds at the same time put the hand in pokerstove (and “play” around with ranges)

i'd say thats a good practice to get a feeling about odds
