i swear i hate these hands unless i have like 10bbs i dont wanna play them, or if someone shoves in late position ill call with ak but seriously im deep in big 11$ i have 30bbs someone who is not super active raises utg big stack calls i have ak in late position and i honestly wish i just fold i shoved and he snapped me off with 55 and flop was terrible and i lost again with ak, it just seems like bad hand a lot of time firstly you have to HIT or you are out if it comes 867 and he has 55 its just a terrible flop for me, In future if this situation occurs il fold ak to first positon raise and just move onto next hand i just dont need to lose all my chips all the time with this hand.
I just dont understand why “pro” players are getting so many chips in with ak you dont even have 50 equity a lot of the time and when you get in a lot of chips the other guy normally doesnt have aq he has a good pair and you are just an underdog. In this tournament i chopped out loads of small pots opening light and c betting so why do i need to risk my chip stack with ak can anyone telll me please cause i normally lose with this hand so why should i play it?

i apologise for posting this, i had a few beers the other night and was a bit sick to bust quite deep in another tourney, but thats part of tournament poker you have to deal with these flips that you lose. Anyway sorry for posting this one it looks a bit moany and not that useful for other players. gl.Dan

Beer or not I guess it's a decent question Dan, it's not uncommon to shove with AK only to get snap called by a mid/small pair and lose, yes you are an underdog against a PP but against his range (if you think it can include AQ, maybe AJs and you will get a call with those) and with fold equity it becomes a decent proposition to shove. I agree mixing in some higher end PPs and shoving with those also mixes up your range so your shove can't always be assumed to be AK.
One thought is in the situation above is 30bbs too much to shove with, can you raise to make your hand look less like AK and take the lead in the pot? If you get 4 bet shoved on you are getting odds to call but if your 3 bet gets flatted and it comes with two overs to villains pp you will get a fold often with a cbet. I think sometimes it pays to mix it up a bit, people see AK and just wanna jam it in if someone raises it up, it helps to think about stack sizes, positions, looking at PFR %, 3BF %, FCB% etc before reaching a decision.
Here's wishing you always end up on the right side of those flips

funny thing is about ak/aq people say you have like 45/46 equity vs qq or jj but it cant always be true because sometimes two aces are folded around the table so you have maximum 45% and sometimes much less.
eg you have ak and call a shove my 1010 but someone folded a2 someone folded a6 and someone folded k5 so two aces and one king are already removed from the deck and you are drawing much slimmer.
