I was playing in a $5 rush tourney on full tilt….  Started with 2970 players & we were down to 11.  I was around 9th or 10th in chips, but still had 28BB's.  People were playing pretty aggressive at this point.

11th place gets $111, 1st got $3000, which would have been huge for me, as I'm a low-roller & don't play a ton.

Preflop, I liked the looks of the QT suited from the button & figured what the hell, I'd call his raise & see a flop. Would a fold have been better?  With the stack size, it seemed like shipping it would be for too much, and a non-shipping 3-bet would be committing too much of my stack.  So, maybe a fold?

When the flop came down top pair & a flush draw, I figured, “sweet – i gots da nutz”.   He led out, and I'm not sure what I was thinking min-raising him back.  I think I had a momentairly lapse of reason.  I guess I was hoping he'd fold, but I was too scared to put all my chips in!  He re-raised me back and I pretty much just shipped it without thinking.

On the flop, folding to his lead-out bet seemed way too nitty.  I guess if I was willing to get it all in anyway, I should have just re-raised him all-in.  What do you think the best action would have been?  Call & see a turn?  Ship it?

I know I was ahead after we got it all in, but it was basically a flip which seems really dumb considering how high the payouts rise once you get to the final table.

I know I misplayed the hell out of it – I guess just looking for what I should have done.  Folded pre?  3-bet shoved pre?  On the flop, called to see a turn?  Or shipped it there?

Thanks in advance for what I'm sure will be sage-like advice!  I feel like I played real well most of the tourney, lost focus, and just completely dumped it on this one hand.  Sucks, but I guess it happens.  Just going to have to play more tourneys!

I think you played this hand perfectly fine.  Preflop I think flatting is good…you'll have position and your stack is a little big for shipping.

On the flop I am dying to get every chip in the pot.  You accomplished that.  You can't really be worried about a bigger flush draw.  Against his range you have some great equity with a pair and a flush draw.  You could make an argument for just calling if that's going to get him to put more chips in on the turn, but not because you should be afraid of playing for stacks on this board.  I might ship it in on the flop to make it look like a draw, and because he might shut down on a club turn though.  Depends on what i think of this guy…will he stack off with TP or an overpair.

pretty much this.
sucks he had your clubs dominated, i would break my arm off to get this in. i like the flat preflop and i like the way you played it on the flop too.

Cool, thanks, guys…  It's tough to not be results-oriented!  Glad to hear you guys would be getting it in on the flop as well – validates what I was doing.  When I got it in & saw the two overs & dominated clubs, I knew I was in trouble & of course started thinking of what I could have done differently & if I could have or should have been able to get away from it….  It's tough when you can do the right thing & have bad results, but watching the TPE videos is definitely helping!  Thanks again…  I'll win one of these bigger field tourneys one of these times!

Yeah, listen to today's podcast.  Jamie talks about taking away positives instead of negatives.  You made it through a gigantic field, and got it in on the FT bubble with a hand that crushes his range…great job.  Focus on that and review what you did well.

Cool – I haven't listened to any of the podcasts yet but will have to start with today's.  Thanks for the kind words!

With 40-50 blinds I could see flatting but.. shortstacked/final table bubble I would just fold preflop.

I disagree and think 28bbs is enough to flat.  Even though he wasn't closing the action, the BB has too many chips to steal so I'm not too worried about that.

Plus it's a rush tournament so you're extremely short handed until it gets to 9, and your stack will rapidly deteriorate if you just fold down. So having a decent hand with good post-flop equity and some chips in the pot makes this a call for me.  As RFB & Benny said, just a cooler that he has the clubs also, I would probably lean towards just shipping on the flop since he likely just has overs or a medium pair.  Shipping takes the play away from him to 3-bet your minraise, but given the strength of your hand on this flop and since you were committed to go with it a min raise isn't bad either.
