I play a lot of 18-90 man sit and gos and I am starting to find I am leaking a lot with my all-in calls.
I am getting a good understanding of the correct hands to shove preflight with less than 20BBs, however I seem to be busting a lot by calling too light. I know that I need to have a stronger hand to call that to shove, but how much stronger does my hand have to be? I also think it might be a mental game issue that I have as I seem to always assume the villain is shoving at the bottom of their range so I call lighter than I should – I guess I am always being too ‘optimistic’. for example if I am in the BB with >15BB and the button shoves with the same size stack I always think they are very light and call just as light – I hate the idea someone is ‘stealing’ chips. Haha.
If anyone here has some advice for addressing this leak it would be appreciated.

Holdem Resources Manager! This tool will help you analyze what you should be calling GTO and how much you profit by doing so. You can also enter the range you think villain is shoving and see what you should call. I have found it very useful. Another tool you can use for similar purposes is ICMIZER2. I dont own it so I cant say much but I think it is also a good tool. I am sure you can google both and use the one that works for you. You can also do ICM calculations with both which is very important for sngs. Good luck at the tables!

I think you need to re-frame how you think about the blinds. The blinds are poker tax, no one likes to pay them but everyone has to, not just you. Once the chips are in the middle they are no longer ‘yours’ they are part of the pot. Wildly risking 15bb to win back your 1bb tax is illogical – the risk / reward is just not there. Following this train of thought further, when someone raises or shoves from late position they are trying to win the pot not steal ‘your’ blinds. However, whenever you have posted the big blind the tax man has generously given us tax relief on the price of trying to win the pot we contributed our blind to.

There’s only one answer to this question. If you want to get better at short-stacked poker, you need to be spending a large number of hours running hands through a Nash calculator like HoldemResources Calculator or ICMIZER. There really is no other way besides spending countless hours running calculations. Virtually every question you could ever have about a short-stacked situation can be answered by a calculator in one way or another.

my general rule of thumb is that i should be calling with hands that have atleast 55% equity against their nash shoving range, although generalizations in poker are just generalizatiins and obviously a lot of factors can affect your calling/reshoving range
This isn’t even close to accurate, I’m afraid. There’s no situation in poker where you need 55% to call, since you’re never getting worse than 1-to-1 odds. If you’re waiting until you have 55% equity before calling a preflop shove, you’re most likely making far too many folds.
