I don't have a lengthy history with this guy at all, but I am inclined to make the call as I am drawing to the nuts, but I don't think I am getting the right price. I am fairly confident I need to hit a spade to win the pot as the check raise makes me think that I am looking at a lower made flush. The question is should I have just checked behind and take the free card on this one?

I think you should have just shut down on the flop. Betting on this board vs 3 people with a K there , i don't see how you take the pot down with only one bet, someone must have hit something and they're not folding. So essentially you're just bloating the pot when you hold just a draw and are oop. As played, i'd shut down on turn and i don't think you'd get a free card, but maybe you'd get a price you are willing to pay to see the river. No matter what he has if you get all your money in on the turn you're getting a bad price cause your equity dropped pretty significantly from flop to turn [ check it in stove bt way ].  IF you are so adamant to get to the river try a check-raise on flop  essentially commiting yourself to the pot.

another thing to keep in mind here is that if another spade comes on the river how are you gonna extract value? maybe just if the guy is so pot commited he can't fold but even so..

bullet points:

don't bet on a draw oop into 3 people

have a plan from the flop , don't find yourself wondering on the turn.

I think taking a free card when it's to your benefit is a good play. The call is tempting but as you say you are not getting the right price.

I was a little torn about the c-bet, but I figured that since I opened pre-flop and it was a scary board that I would take a shot with the c-bet. When he called my thought was he was drawing to a lesser flush or may have hit some part of the flop and was just trying to get to showdown. On the turn I fired the second barrel mostly to try to find out where I was as I was a little confused. I figured if I fire another barrel he is going to do a couple of things, fold figuring i hit, call again leaving me confused or raise me if he hit. What I wasn't sure of was how to proceed once he made the move on the turn.

I would have taken the free card he may have already made the flush or has a king. I think he was letting you be the agressor since you were getting chips in.  If you did not make your hand at the river: another spade or ace, I am sure he would have made a bet without checking it to you again. I would have shut it down after his turn reraise.

Yeah, I think i let my aggression get the best of me on that hand. I don't think the turn bet was really going to get me anywhere. Should have slowed down for the freebie.
