I've noticed just in the small time i've been playing how demoralising it can get when you are going out time after time especially the ones where your decisions were right but got no rewards, i was wondering, is coping with this something you are born with or was their something specific you maybe read or saw that made you realise you could withstand this mental battering and come out the other side?

Here's my philosophy….

…..t-winning/

Once I realized the vastness that is variance it made it a lot easier to accept.

It can be a struggle at times, but you have to get over it to be able to get better. I don't think there's a player alive who never gets into a mental slump at some point. It' all about how quickly you recover.

staying positive is really hard, i find watching TV cash games with durrr and Ivey and so on and really thinking about the hands they play, and why they do what they do is a constructive way to regroup and get excited for poker.  Although watching Jerry Yang win the main is pretty motivational as well in a if he can do it I can do it type of way.

I am finding it difficult, more so to keep believing in doing the right things after bad beats, i then looked back over the results and realised the earlier ones were due to bad luck but then saw i blew myself out of the next few due to some shocking over the top shoves when so obviously beat, but reading the article it's probably true i felt like i was owed something and went looking to catch miracle rivers, so it's something else to add to the learning process.

It's amazing how when starting this game you think it's only about the cards and as you go deeper the cards themselves slip farther and farther down the importance scale.

I am still trying to think positive.  I know that I should be happy with my play/decision making as it is the only thing I can control, but sometimes it is hard to stay positive.  What I try to do is not be result oriented anymore.  Positive thinking leads to positive results!!

el oh lol… this.

Poker pisses me off a lot. Not even gonna pretend otherwise. And it should piss you off, in my opinion. Once you stop getting mad at the close calls it means you're losing your drive to win.

Trick is balancing out the rest of your life to offset the fact that a certain game we all love will not go your way like 99.8% of the time.
