Hey everyone
Ive managed to satty into a game on Friday (for free) that is 10 times higher than my normal buyin but only 5% of the field gets paid but the payouts are big (@least for me)
Any tips or helpful advice regarding playing against lot better opposition im expecting than im used too and only 1 in 20 getting paid
My inital thoughts were omggg im going to have to gamble but this time it not turbo and you start with over twice the sattelite stack was
I know it free but I really hope to do well (realise its going to be tough) but winner gets 700 euros which would by far be my highest ever cash have a feeling if I get to the bubble I may tempted to play scared money which could be detremental
My push fold game is improved but im bit too tight early stages I think
cheers

So does top 5% just all win the same $ (essentially another sattelite) or is it a normal tournament payout w the exception of a smaller % making the money?
If its a sat just play pretty normal game early/mid and then it gets fairy complicated the closer you get to the money. If its a normal mtt payout structure then I would just say play your game, and I guess if you feel you’re at a skill disadvantage, you should plays more agg w your draws and w your shoves/resteals late game. GL sir!

I should have been clearer sorry yes its now a normal MTT but with the exception only 5% get paid (but the payouts are then higher than they would have been if it was normal 15% payout structure

payout structure from my poor memory is
500 |
300 |

If you feel you’re going to be at a skill disadvantage versus the field, it’s in your interests to play a high-variance style as much as possible. Do a lot more 3-betting and less cold calling preflop, play all your draws aggressively and make sure you get your push-fold game in order, at least as much as is possible in a few days.
Don’t focus on trying to evolve your game too much before Friday, you’ll end up confusing yourself and making mistakes. Besides push-fold ranges, there’s not much you can learn in a few days that will really improve your ROI. The best thing you can do is make sure you’re in the best possible condition to play your best on the day – make sure you get enough sleep, you’re in a good frame of mind, and above all, don’t be results-oriented or money-oriented.
Most of the time you’re not going to cash this tournament. If only 5% of the field cashes, there’s probably only a 7-8% chance of you cashing, even if you have a skill edge. It’s a very high-variance tournament and there’s a lot of emphasis placed on finishing in the top few spots, so don’t be afraid to gamble, and make peace with the idea that you’re probably not going to win. Just enjoy yourself and hopefully you’ll run good! GL 🙂

hi theginger45
thank you !
I understand I just dont want to be resigned to losing but I know its a very big chance
i rarely 3 bet so this could be wild and in a home game once i got to headsup with a pro and thought gamble gamble gamble time in the end I actually won the league points (which became some cash later) AK beating AJ it kinda spurred me on I knwo very small sample but I expected to lose
PT4 is amazing this month I was slightly down but nw im up a little if only A3s could beat his 58 (why was he playin 58 lol is what I ask myself would have won more
As ive got more aggressive my results overall have improved so it no coincidence but really need to learn 3 betting
Think I have been running good lately ty hope it continues
I be happy with 5th but will try for higher..ive actually got 2 chances 1 is the following Friday
