Hey Hey!!!

Only read I have is that V tends to call raises pre a fair bit, I've played only one 1 hand with v , but never got to showdown as i won the pot ott.

preflop thoughts on 3-betting?

I'm just not sure if they fold to 3-bets often enough or how much they fold to c-bets OTF either , so i just decided to flat as we're getting good odds to call pre.

I decided to c/c on the flop , I think c/f seems pretty weak and both of our ranges are pretty wide here considering its a btn vs bb spot, so i think ace high here does have some showdown /bluff catching value ( we also have BDSD + BDFD potential).

on the river do you think value betting is fine as played?

There's a lot of hands that v may call with , and my value target would be hands like KJ/KT/ obv better aces beat us but i think those are just unlikely to be in their range.

If we decide to check on the river it's likely that v will check back most of their showdown value hands so i think b/f is prolly the best play…i guess checking river can't be terrible , by checking we could induce a bet from worse hands since their range seems more weighted towards marginal hands. t

Thoughts?

Looks good. I wouldn't 3-bet pre, especially not against the V described. Against really top-notch players river should be a check-call but againt anyone else betting is good for the reasons you gave. Checking isn't going to induce value bets from worse, but it could/should induce bluffs from better players, and it actually looks quite strong for you to bet here, though I wouldn't expect the average player to realize that.NH

hey andrew

I totally agree with what you have written above, much apperciated.

Also let's say for example the river was not an Ace , let's say it was a brick like 4diamond hero checks and v bets

how often do we need to be correct to call and bluff catch with our hand? This depends on how often we think V will bet on the river as a bluff right? i'd say we need to be correct like 70% of the time to show a profit? i'm just guessing here andrew with the %.

cheers

I would have played this the same with the information provided. Nice play…

Also looking forward to hear from Andrew as I think the percentage will be lower than that.

That would depend how much he bets. You never need to win more than half of the time to call a river bet. The formula is Bet/(Pot+Bet). If Villain bets 1/2 pot, you need to win 1/3 of the time to break-even on a call. On this board, I don't think Ace-high will accomplish that. I'd be more likely to turn my hand into a bluff than a bluff-catcher on a blank river.

Makes sense andrew,  since we know that v has checked 2 streets IP it's very much ulikely they've got monsters in their range but don't you think it's likely that v will call your river bet with like marginal hands since they'll only have to call only one bet?

good thing is we wont lose much even if we are called here , so i guess its worth a stab!

Maybe he will, maybe he won't. Unless you know he will, you're supposed to have a bluffing range, and this is probably the bottom of your range after check-calling flop so it's a good bluffing candidate. You should watch or re-watch my Bluffing series if you have more questions about this.l

I watched the first few mins of the bluffing series (part 1) but you said how you recommend TPE players to watch your hand reading/value betting series first, which i did! and that was really helpeful. I also keep re-watching those series just so i understand it fullly!

so yeah i still need to watch the bluffing series , looking forward to that very much.

and yeah hero is supposed to have a bluffing range for sure!  can u imagine if we never had a bluffing range, we will be so easily exploited andrew! haha 😛
