So I’m fairly new to the table, played around 3 orbits. The game is a $11 MTT deep stack on lock poker. I have 34bb, the button has 55bb. There are 17 players left, I am around 6th in chips. He is around 3rd.
I am in the small blind and get dealt 10 10
The button opens 3x the big blind. I decided to call.
Flop comes 334
I check, he bets half pot, I call.
Turn J
I check, he bets half pot, I call again.
River A
I check, he puts me all in for around 3/4 pot, I call
What would you do in my spot? I’m not going to post the results because I’m curious to see what you guys think. I might post what he had later on, but I would first like to know what you guys would have done in my spot.
Cheerio!
Firstly I think you should of been more aggressive pre and or on the flop. It takes you away from being in a tough position on the river. His range is so huge with it being folded to him on the button. Also I think your going to make a lot more profit by re raising. Even if you flat pre and see the flop then Check raise. Do you have any reads on the Villian. Does he have double barrell with ace high in him? Then gets there on the river.
I just think you should if found out where abouts you were earlier in the hand to save yourself from being in these tough decisions
As played you set yourself up in a tough spot guessing game every street.
Button to SB I can't imagine not wanting to get 10s in preflop from 34bbs to a button steal.
3bet to 2.5x his raise preflop, and 5bet jam if he 4bets imo.
As played, check/raise get it in on the flop.
Not sure what to do on river like I said it is a complete guess. Yes it is a good card for him to rep and he has to triple barrel it to win the pot if he had air the whole time. But you really should have been more aggro and extracted more info on a previous street or preflop rather than making a random decision on the river.
Thanks guys, coming from a SNG background, 34bb seems like the nuts to me, though it really isn't I really didn't want to get in 34bb pre with 10 10 when I really feel I can work the stack. In this situation I just went with my gut and c/c him down, and he ended up showing Q8. My thinking was different. I was wondering what he could be representing. Ace 3/Ace 4? Wouldn't the 3rd diamond slow him down a tiny bit? A Jack? Wouldn't the ace slow him down? An ace? Would he really two barrel an ace rag sort of hand? I wasn't all too worried about the flush because it came runner runner, though he could have bet when he picked up equity on the turn, which is what I would have done. I think this narrows his range down to a flush, JJ, AA, or nothing really. In this situation I thought it was more likely he had nothing so I called.
Interesting to see your thought processes though, thanks.
