I feel like I have always known shove spots and scraping blinds, but need to improve leaks in my game like 3betting short and (mostly) deep stack when antes come into play and when deep in tournaments. Any suggestions on videos or series on TPE that would help me with these leaks, or any suggestions in general would be appreciated.

For 3betting I would look in the Theory video section, Bigdog has a nice little primer on the subject, and while you are there I believe there are some other short stack vids that can help with that awkward 20-25bb type space. As for deep stack, it really is a bit of a different beast. I would go back in the archives and check out Wein's USCOOP and some of the SCOOP vids, as they are very deep stacked events. From my experienece I have a little bit of a deep stack primer in my blog's that may help with some insight. Couple of things to think about when you are deep (75bb+)

1. Hand values change

2. The bigger the ratio of stack to pot the more room you have to manuever

3. Be aware of who you are playing against and what the effective stack size in the hand is as that dictates play

4. With a deep stack you need to plan deeper in a hand (i.e. what to do on the turn and especially the river)

The first is in relation to things like AK type hands. Big aces are really powerful against a short stack, if two deep stacks are going at it, it is a drawing hand, not a monster. The second is one to remember when betting and bet sizing. There is a huge temptation with lots of chips to bloat pots, the bigger the pot the less room you have to manuever and the harder it is to play deeper in the hand where more mistakes are made. Effective stack sizes are huge, if you are 100bb deep and the guy in the hand with you has 15bb, guess what, you are playing a 15bb strategy there, you can't use your chips to compensate for villians stacks, don't try to or you will certainly hemmorage chips. The last one is a big one and can be very expensive. When you have 15-25bb, we don't really have enough chips to really work to much past the flop, sometimes the turn, but very rarely the river. So our strategy does not really need to get us there, we need to look at equity and make decisions sooner in the hand. When big stacks are playing against each other then you have to think about the hand, textures and all of the other considerations all the way thought to the river. A lot of mistakes are made in tournament poker when players have to think for 5 streets so there is a lot of room to grow big stacks bigger.

Hope that helps some!

very nice points les

best one i take out of this is that (it's probably so obvoius though) the bigger our stack, the further along in the hand we need to plan for. Whats the point of planning for the river when we're going to be all in on the flop or turn with 25bbs!

seems like chess players would like bigstacks moresmile

Thanks alot les, even reading that is really refreshing in alot of aspects and im definately going to check those out, as im trying to touch up my game before i head down to vegas for some WSOP action because at times i do have a tendency to bloat pots with AK pre when big stack and I definately have to remember to plan ahead every hand for every street. Also i must admit the 20-25bb awkward spot i coule probably improve at as its alot trickier then playing a 10-12bb shove pre stack
