Playing 10J Suited with 15BB in SB with a 2 BB all-in front
New member here posting my first hand analysis. I have watched many of the videos and have played far more online tournies in the last week than my wife likes all in an effort to really get my game on point. Firstly, I can say the videos and forums have definltye helped already. My hand in question actually comes from a live tournament that I played today. It was a $600 buy in 40k guaranttee that has a pretty decent structure. It is relatively shallow in the first 6 levels but then starts ramping up faily quickly.
I had been doing a very good job all tournmanet only getting in good spots where I had postion, was the agreessor with decent hands. I think my image was very TAG as I really don’t think I had enetered a pot pre-flop without raising prior to the following hand. I was in the small blind with approximately 27k in chips. The blinds were 800 1600 with a 75 dollar ante. We are now at the point in the tournamen t where the blinds are going up pretty quick and there is lots of pre-flop shoving. As the numbers indicate I have about 15 big blinds or a CSI of a little over 8. The average stack was slightly higher than my chip stack.
The action began with the villian one, UTG, who i have played with several times before. He plays fairly passively, isn’t willing to fold very easily, isn’t completely clueless but is now what I have learned to refer to as a “live donk: 🙂 Doesn’t really take postion in consideration with hands, enters lots of pots limping about 1/2 the time and raising a little over 2x when he does raise. His VPIP is certainly high. His chip stack is approximately the same as mine. IN the hand in question he limps from under the gun.
Villian 2, UTG +1 had recently been crippled, he is a good player solid player. He only has 2,900 left and he shoves.
Action folds around to me in the small blind . I have 10J of spades. Now normally, I would be hesitate to just call this out of position for the entire hand with an early limper. But I have played with Villian 1 enough to know that it is unlikely he is trapping. My thought process is that 10J suited plays well multi-handed and I am comfortable getting away from it with continued aggression or a trouble some flop. I just call the 2,900. My question really concerns the following streets. But I guess question 1, was this a bad call? should I have raised? folded? The reason I just called is becuase of small “all-in” in the pot I thought that it would be a situation that wouldn’t see further agression becuase of the dead money, yet since it was a hand that could potentially flop well I was mentally inviting the big blind and UTG along for the ride. Still, I am not sure if I played pre flop right?
The big blind actually folds, villian 1 calls under the gun. three of us see the flop. but villian 2 is all in. At this point the pot is 11,050. That is the main pot.
The flop comes 5,6,10 rainbow. Since I have improved. I figure I should bet to get ride of Villian one. Since he just twice called UTG I put his range at any small to mid pair. Aces with middle kickers, and suited connectors probably like 89 and up. I make a bet of 4,500 since I now have top pair decent kicker. Villian 1 Under the gun flat calls my 4,500 bet. So now, there is 20,500 in the total pot, (main and side pot). how was the sizing of this bet? Good bet or should I just check becuase of the all-in player?
This is where I would like some advice. The turn is 9 and the board has two clubs on the boards. So. . What do I do now?
It seems like an interesting to me since there is already the all in player, but the side pot has now gotten substantial too. can’t wait for the discussion and I will update the action that follows if discussion arises. Thanks in advance. and I already love this site!
