Sorry I am at work and don't have the full hand history but I'll try to as much detail as possible:

This was somewhat deep, into the money, with about 200 runners or so left.  I have about 15BBs in the big blind.  Action folds to button who min raises, small blind folds.  I have 66.. now this is obviously a super standard 3 bet shove spot considering my stack size and the button was min raising wide with a big stack.  I decided to take a more creative line and flat the min raise instead of shoving with full intentions of getting it in on any flop, the old stop and go.

My rationale was bc his range was so wide I didn't want him folding his garbage hands.  If he calls, we are more than likely flipping.  I'm sure he would call with hands like J10s+, Q9s+, all broadways, any A and pairs.  The only hands we have crushed are 22-55.   His calling range might even be wider than that since he was pretty loose with a big stack.  But given this info, I thought we would basically be flipping.

Flop come J 2 5 rainbow.  Although a lot of Js are in his range,  I couldn't have asked for a better flop.  Instead of going with my initial plan of jamming, I opted to check for 2 reasons.  1) I was already going with this hand regardless, since the flop looked somewhat safe I wanted to give him the chance to C-bet (his C-bet % was high) and jam over the top.  2) If I jammed now I don't want him to fold gargage hands like 74o.

Unfortunately he checked behind.  Turn was a 9, I jammed, he called, tables A9 gg me.  I know if you look at this hand in a vacuum, I couldn't have played this any worse.  I guess my question is should I even be thinking this way?  Does this make sense? I know jamming the flop like I planned would've won me the pot.  I don't know, maybe I got the case of fancy play syndrome, or I just leveled myself into making a dumb play.  Any thoughts, criticisims, and even flamming would be appreciated.

Hopeflly this wasn't tl ; dr.  Just wanted to thank everyone in advance.  I love this site and the videos are top notch.  Keep up the great work and gl at the tables

If you jammed pre he was looking you up anyhow and you wouldve lost on a flip… no big deal. Pretty standard

Once you planned to stop and go, why did you change your mind? you said youself that flop was perfect for your 66, why didnt you follow through with the original plan?

The turn play was a mistake. i prefer the check-call to the open jam since your representing a nine and he's only calling with anything that beats a nine and folding all else. Checking allows him to bluff at the pot when he has air – winning you extra chips (which was the reason for checking the flop but you decided to go back to plan a and shove)

But really the flop play was the biggest mistake since its just too high variance. Stick to the plan, jam it in, make him fold the equity in his hand, dont get greedy with 13bb behind and close to 6bb in the pot.

With under 15 bbs, stick to basic strategy. Developing fancy play syndrome with a stack size that doesn't allow for post flop play is pretty leaky. Just jam preflop

this. with 66 you are you dont want him to be opening Q9o and actually getting to hit his hand. better to jam and either flip it off or get some valuable chips when he folds

I think the BigDog actually just wrote about this in his last blog/article…I think it is “pulling the trigger”, i may be wrong, but in it he explains once you decide to go with the plan go with it.  Whether it is a min raise open with the plan of called a 3 bet jam, doing a go and go, or in this case the stop and go.  Go with it..you made the decision so roll with it.  Hindsight is always 20/20 and it is hard not to be results oriented.  You are probably not posting this if he doesn't turn the 9, but in a way it was good, because we learn from it.

I think usually your first gut instinct on how to play the hand is the best.  Once you decide what you want to do…”pull the trigger”. Best of luck at the tables.

Def just jam pre. I'm all for non-standard lines, but here we should be happy when villain folds.

Also, i think we are wrong to assume the villain is going to definitely call w hands like jts or q9s. You'll get a lot more folds than you think.

Agreed that you should have stuck with the plan.  The pot is incredibly valuable to you on the flop w/ only 14bbs left behind.  Since you consider the flop safe, I'd get it in now since there are very few turn cards that we are comfortable seeing.  Get him off random higher cards than a 6 that can easily get there.

Ya, no need to get tricky with 15bbs or less.  Just shove pre and win the flip.
