Hello T.P.E. family good to be here. I have played poker in Las Vegas for about 10 years (just rec) I enjoy tournaments much more than cash games, thus why I joined this site. As with anyone who has played that long their have been wins but many more losses. I know I have leaks in my game so I am looking to start from the beginning (no use trying to read high school text book when your in third grade )
Alex Assassinato says in the Top hand review video of TPE university that he could take someone who was just learning poker and with a few pages of instruction turn them into a good player. I am sure becoming a good player is much more complex than that. However I am also sure that a good player could write a list or instructions on what subjects to cover in which order, for a beginner and after studying this information any player would greatly improve his game . I find I learn far better from Videos than books, another reason I joined this web site. To be Honest I thought TPE university was set up in this manner. Please send me any ideas
Thanks

Welcome! We’re glad to have you here!
Ranges are one thing you are going to want to work on and there’s a lot to cover. I think you could start with some basic push/fold stuff and try to get that nailed down. There’s some good charts you can use in game as well
Then get into opening and calling ranges from different positions and stack sizes. This should help you stay pretty balanced preflop and ensure you aren’t playing too tight or too loose.
You’re also going to want to incorporate some 3 betting strategies. So learning which hands to do that with and when to bluff will be very important too.
Bet sizing on all streets is probably equally as important as all of the above. Again, a lot to cover here but you’ll want to pay attention to that as much as possible.
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll have no problem improving your game here every day! DM me if you need anything

a great technique to learn with the videos is to pause the video lots and talk through what you would do and why, then watch what the pro does and why. its an effective way to improve, especially if,like me,you learn better through visuals. As active learning tends to stay with us more than just passively watching videos..

Random thought…I noticed TPE is no longer the sponsor of Thinking Poker Podcast. Is Andrew still active here?
yes he is! We, of course, are still very big fans of the Thinking Poker Podcast, but with the TPE Podcast now being much more regular and just a general change in our marketing strategy we felt it was time to shift our focus a little bit.
