Hi there,

I've been wondering about this a few times now: Is there an ideal stacksize we should try to target when we have a fold-or-reship stacksize (M < ~8; BB <20).

I think that stacks between 25 and 45 BB are the ideal target for re-steals and squeeze plays, because they may still be stealing relativly light with Ax and broadway but fold to a shove that can still hurt their stack a lot.

Is this correct thinking? Surely nothing new, but I noticed this isn't something i got embedded in my concious knowledge. My resteals with marginal hands (and rarely pure bluffs) are mostly based on the players stats and table dynamics, but considering the ideal stacksize seems to be an interesting topic, too.

Any input on the topic?

I think ur other two factors u mentioned are more important. I mean if someone is opening w like 17bbs, then yeah you’re gonna expect to have a lot less fe, but I don’t put a a ton of stock in stack size diff from 30-100, it probably has a bigger impact at like a ft but aside from that I wouldn’t sweat it too hard…

I think you make a good point, but it's worth remembering that the only reason their stack sizes have an impact on whether we reshove on them or not is because their stack sizes change their ranges, so really what we're looking for is the same thing as always – players with wide opening ranges and tight calling ranges.

Stack sizes between 25-45bb are going to be good places to find those kinds of players, but it's important not to draw an erroneous link between two factors affecting our decisions here, because there are many instances in which players on those stack sizes do not conform to the same logic that would lead us to reshove wider against them. There are plenty of guys who open tight and almost always call, and plenty of guys who open wide and call way too wide. All sorts of different scenarios can play out.
