hey bigdog this site u guyz have here is gr8 i use to be a member of pxf and this is better imo. anyway my question for u is. with this strategy u teach instead of waiting till u have 10bb or so to shove u rather 3 bet shove with 20bbs, in the lower stakes as in 1$ -5$ tournies is this going to work well also? I find i keep getting called off by like 55-77 lots. or maybe that is what i want them to do is put in 25 bbs with 66 after they open? thx bigdog!
Well I just did a micro stakes series. And I defenetly can see some differences between that and higher stakes stuff. However I just tried to adjust to differnt players that were at my table. So if you have someone you no thats gonna call off 22bigs with 55 then i will use that and over shove monsters on him knowing I will get paid off. So you just kinda have to adjust to the styple players that are at your table.
Froz brings out great point. I have to constantly remind myself that the “correct” or the best play re 3betting w a stack of about 20bbs in the lower mtt and mtt sitngos should sometimes be avoided and just wait for a higher % value spot.
Its usually a total waste of time to try to figure out whether the openers bet sizing is as such because he plans to fold to a shove or not. First of all most are certainly not planning anything and some actions they take have no reason or purpose.
When villains fold frequency is lower than u estimate it to be, (and your estimate may be the “correct” one based on how he has been playing but he comes up with an off the wall call with 56o or something) it can totally throw off the equation and make your +ev 3bet shove into a negative one.
I've been getting a little depressed lately because it hasnt exactly been enjoyable playing in these lower level mtts even though they may be bankroll builders – the poker is just so bad.
One thing that does help though – Bluff's website has that subs service for just a few bucks a month, where u past a hh of any hand u r playing on that table and it gives u the roi, average buy in, etc., for each player on that table. Surprisingly enough, there are few pretty big winners playing these things and may help single out the thinking players.
The problem si we end u levelling ourselves. We don't yet have the skill or BR to play HS. But we play a tecnical way, that isn't profitable against these guys and we get involved in a higher variance game .
Eg the guy is a calling station, but plays fit or fold on the flop. Rather than shove pre. Flatting or isolating in position, then betitng to his check might be better, he will then fold his small PP. This works quite a bit live, but is kind of spewy.
^^^^????
After thinking about it a bit – there were plenty of times I 3 bet shoved someone whom I labeled as being a bad player, then cursed him out after he won with a hand he shouldn't have called with.
But the mistake was totally mine by 3bet shoving the wrong type of hand vs the wrong type opponent.
