This may not be posted in the right section so gang don’t beat me up over it….. next Friday I get paid so I’ve decided to invest in a HUD(Holdem Manger). My question now is…. because I havent been playing online poker all that long, I’m somewhat clueless of some information. What Im getting at is wt are some tools that I should have or software/websites that I should no about to advance my level of play. I downloaded a universal hand replayer yesterday and Im clueless of how it works. Would I be able to download HH of entire tourny’s and replay them? What are some books I should be reading. I’ve read Harrington on Holdem Vol 1-3. wt are others that are insightful. Please gang flood my mind with ur knowledge. This is a desperate cry for help!!!

Personally I used PokerTracker, just nice information to have when you’re playing a lot of tables and don’t always have the attention span to pay attention to who is being aggressive and who is being nitty on like 10 different tables. Pokerstove is a good tool too for hand ranges and equity, mainly to look hands over after the fact.

I remember when I was first beginning that the book “Making the Final Table” by Erick Lindgren really helped my game. I’ve recently read “Winning poker tournaments one hand a time vol. 1” by PJ/Rizen/Apestyles.. and think that gives a lot of good information. Websites you should probably know about (if you don’t already) are ones like Sharkscope (SNGs), thepokerdb/officialpokerrankings (MTTs/MTTSNG’s) to track profit/roi/cashes, etc etc. Read the instructions on the website for the hand replayer, it is no doubt a very useful tool. You can upload hand histories for whole tournaments and essentially watch yourself play that tournament, its great for seeing if you have leaks or where you might be making mistakes.

I think these are a lot of the basics.. good luck to you!

If your new to poker I would wait on getting a HUD.  The info on there can be very overwhelming and like you said you dont know what all the numbers mean.  Save your money until you have a good base of knowledge.  Starting off with a HUD will only act as a crutch.  You should be focusing on your play right now.

Things you should consider getting/checking out:

HUD – i use hold em manager, but others might argue for PT3.

PokerStove – it’s free and a really useful tool to play with.

I’ll talk to the guys about maybe doing a tutorial on some of these tools as a vid series.

As for books.  HOH is really good overview.  I would also suggest Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time 1 and 2.

And you already have the “subscribe to the best tournament training site” part down!

Over the past month I’ve dabbled in HUD’s and I use Poker CoPilot for the Mac OS X and it is fantastic. Even if you don’t use the HUD you can use Poker CoPilot to track your results, plug leaks, analyze your play, replay hands and so much more. Fantastic product imo

holdem manager is far and away the best HUD. i don’t thnk PT3 even comes close. HEM just does everything that PT3 does plus so much more. it even tracks PLO as well as HE.

not knowing how to properly use pokerstove is sort of a crime imo. many if not most spots you encounter in an mtt can be boiled down to relatively easy if not really simple math problems and stove will tell you your hands exact equity against your opponents range of hands. not to mention that you can just play with it and figure out what types of hands have good equity against ranges–e.g. what hands have the best equity against your standard value range of 99+, AQ+.

as far as reading, just read everything. fill your mind with information, and as you gain experience and put in the work away from the table you will begin to be able to find the holes in the books you’ve read/are reading, and begin to be able to find the good in every book and discard what you don’t need.

you can request a tournament from pokerstars sent to your email, then you can upload it into universal popup replayer and go through it.
