I just late registered the $8 1R1A on PS, so no reads.

What do you guys think about my fold on the turn? Villaini is repping a pretty strong hand there…

Your flat call on his 3-bet seems ok.
The flop you are getting is not so bad either, but their are draws possible.
Checking to the pre flop raiser, maybe ok, but what if he checks behind and another diamond peels of? Your hand is strong enough to bet or to check raise. It is possible he 3-bets before the flop with AQ or AK to avoid too many people in the pot.
Your line is very passive, he keeps the initiative. If you are calling his cbet on the flop you should know what to do on the turn. If you are calling to fold to any bet, why call on the flop? And by calling on the flop he got a cheap turncard too.
His bet on the turn is 2/3rds of the pot and is not so abnormal because he might think you were on a flush draw.
I think you were too passive on the flop (but then again, who am I 😉 )

I think it's fine. I probably play it the same way.

That said, I think I 4bet/fold a fair amount of the time here also.

I dont like a 4 bet fold at all, we are purely bluffing or trying to value a 4 bet flatting range OOP(or have a lot of FE which we dont have given positions)?  That seems really optimistic.

The way you played it in OP is fine.  These spots are really just not that fun, his range is super strong and we are effectively set mining(which is really profitable if his range is a strong as we expect).  I also dont mind floating the flop because that bet is really small(but I would prefer to haev the Jd in our ahnd, not only for bd diamond draw but also means our set wont bring the FD 50% of the time like it will now).

I have no problem with your line here op, basically calling pre to setmine or call once on a friendly flop.

I don't like the idea of 4betting pre, most likely we fold out any worse hands, on the occassion we do get a call we then have to play JJ oop against an unknown but strong range, often we will get value owned by KK, AA, or get no value from AK when they miss.

I also don't like the idea of c/r this flop, all we achieve with that is declaring our hand as a medium overpair, in fact it looks so strong it's closer to a bluff than a value raise.

So yeah, I like the turn fold.

I prefer the way it was originally played but its a pretty face up way to play JJ both pre and post flop. Given no reads, that’s fine. I’m just saying i wouldn’t play it that way every time as I began to develop a read on the villain.

Good way to see villains tendencies.

Perhaps not the most optimal play but in early stages it's sometimes okay to peel for more information.

. I think calling 3bet oop in genral is ok but only if you intend to check/raise  a lot of flops because in theory you should be able to flat these hands OOP for a profit but even  players like myself who can show a profit doing it would prefer to 4bet.. I think the best line in this hand is to 4bet fold. I would make it something like 1000 and fold to a shove.  It allows us to define our hand preflop and prevents us from having to make difficult decisions Deep OOP postflop. And if anything it might give us an aggressive image that we can use later on. As played though i would probaly call the turn and fold most rivers especially diamonds. It is a big misconception that if you call flop and turn you have to call the river every single time. I would fire a second barrell 70% if i was villian here with AK,AQAJ, but not a third without a real hand.

i like the way you played it.

dont think that many villains in these MTTs are 3betting AK,AQ with those positions
