Morning all,
Just reviewing a session i played last night and have a few questions on the following hand.
Firstly, should I have just shoved Pre? I’ve only seen MP1 play 40 hands, but he’s playing VPIP 49/PFR 42. With that in mind, i elect to call as i want to keep him in the hand, with what is likely a weak holding. I have the same reasoning on the flop, so i think a call is correct.
On the turn, Villain fires his first turn CBet, should i be finding a fold here?
The river is a bad card for him, as i’m putting Ax (A9, AQ?) in his range and give him credit for it, fold.

What are your thoughts? Have i played the entire hand wrong? I’m not sure if i should have just shoved Pre or the check/calling line is right, for value?

Flatting pre is fine, especially with your read that his range is way too wide. I can see how letting him see a flop will help you. He may have a weak hand that would fold to a re-raise pre-flop but that could easily flop top pair and put loads of money in (QJ, perhaps).
It’s less obvious to me that you benefit from “keeping him in the pot” on the flop. By just calling, you are choosing to see more cards. What cards exactly are you hoping to see? How do you think seeing them will make your situation better than it is on the flop? It seems quite odd to me that on the flop you say you want to keep him in the pot, but then when he puts more money in the pot, you no longer feel good about your hand (though it’s not obvious to me why – as you say, AQ is a very plausible hand for him). Turn should definitely be a shove, if you haven’t gotten the money in already. Nothing good is going to happen for you on the river. You should check out my Getting Paid series and pay particular attention to the concept of front-loading.

With BTN shoving I like flatting to keep MP involved (before I realized BTN was all-in I thought it was really bad, but I like it now). This is a spot where I think we’re happy to sacrifice some preflop EV to take advantage of the weak postflop range of such a loose player.
I don’t like check-calling on this flop. As a general rule, if I slow-play a monster hand on any street, I am looking to fast-play the following street. There are many exceptions, but this is not one of them. Our hand is miles ahead of villain’s bet-call range but it is only one pair. The flop is our best opportunity to get a lot of chips in against a worse hand.
Villain has roughly 540k behind after betting 95k. I think I’d check-raise to ~270k planning to shove any turn other than A or Q.
I’d much prefer slow-playing our overpair on this flop if we were in position, but even then I think we’re usually better off getting the money in quickly.
