Final table of 1800 man $5.50 on Stars, four player left
Fully aware my play is atrocious on every street, tried to be clever pre and then killed myself post by not really knowing what line to take. Plan was to call flop and check shove the turn but 2heart I thought didn’t really help what I was trying to sell and would have looked too bluffy, but would have been better than what I ended up doing. Suggestions would be good on how you would have played it

Well my first consideration would be to 3-bet him PF – but I won't beat you up about that.

Definitely NOT checking the flop to cal (well not checking period)l.  If he doesn't have a Q then you can make him think hard and long about continuing in the hand.  You hit the flop so you can't just throw it in, so rather than telegraphing a flush draw by flatting direct his attention to you maybe holdng a Q, then if the flush completes you could possibly get some more $$ out of him (as he thinks you either have the Qs, Qh, or Qc so can't possibly have hit the flush).  Also his pretty heavy flop bet might indicate he wants you to go away and since you checked he thinks you might just very well do that.  Flatting there has his head jumping to flush draw and as long as he fades a diamond he figures he is good (even with his A9).

By playing it the way you did you gave your self no fold equity and had to rely on getting another diamond to avoid just giving money away (and then you probably won't get another dime out of him when it does hit).

Personally I think I just ship it preflop over his open. Even tho that might sound kinda crazy, I am just not sure how comfortable I am playing an Ahi hand OOP against the bigstack if I 3bet him and he calls. If I was gonna just call the raise preflop like you did,  I think a check/shove on the flop is the best way to play it. FE + flush draw = +EV. That's just my opinion. I'd like to hear if anyone else takes a different approach to this hand.

yeah 3bet him preflop to like 200k-240k. size depends on how much he likes flating 3bets. the more he likes flating 3bets the bigger i would make my 3betsizing.

for 3bet jaming it preflop i think this hand is way to strong… normal 3b gives him the chance to 4bet jam with worse as mentioned in the post above
