Push or fold, with 17bb you don't have room to call.  Also you are too shallow to set mine, your push would be a resteal attempt hoping not to get called so your range is not important.  Would need to know more about the villain before deciding whether to push or fold.

I misread the post, I mixed up the players. I deleted what I originally wrote as it was confusing. Work keeps interfering with poker strategy. LOL

any info on the player?  Depends on who we're against, I think.

I want to properly answer this question from my point of view, instead of my previous hack job. This is my frame of thinking and I tend to be passive with pocket pairs lower then 8’s. There are more hands that can beat pocket 5’s then pocket 5’s beat. A pair of sixes or higher has you beat and any two higher cards has a better chance of pairing up post flop then you have making a set.  Unless you are sure the shove will get you the resteal you could be putting yourself in bad a position. Personally I try to set mine the lower pairs. If I can see the flop cheap that is my approach because if you hit a set it is greatly disguised. No one is going to worry about a 5 on the flop. I joined TPE to learn to become more aggressive and to curb my black/white mathematical attitude. However, what I described has worked for me in the past, I can get paid off if I hit my set or better but can let it go if I miss for low cost.  You are not below 10 BB yet, I would wait for something better to get it in with. I usually do not get to aggressive with pocket 7’s or lower preflop, which may be something I need to work on.

With no reads or stats it's feel dependent. But i'd probably wait for a better spot given he raises from such an early position into a huge stack's bb, this guy doesn't seem to be afraid.

Find a better spot we are flipping or crushed if he calls. We are not at the point were we look down and see a PP and say time to go with it.

Well we have no fold equity so I think I fold here. I'd rather jam JTs than 55 but you also have to remember that bigdogs never lose so I guess shove here and suckout.

I think also to take into consideration is there are no antes.  If this was later and there where antes then this would be worth the risk to pick those up also, but right now I think I fold here and not really think about it.

I think this mid / low pair scenario is one where it is better to be the agressor than responding to an aggressor.

As pointed out, at this stack size we have no FE and are mostly hoping to be in a flip.

So fold for me.

Most of the time if a player is 3xing with this stacksize he is not going to fold to your shove unless you have like at the very least 20bb, and usually you will need like 22-24.  It also signifys strength usually, so I just muck it here.

id just fold. hes opening in mp1 a full 3x so most of the time id just fold.
