Few things;
– what is the game?
If its a $2 rebuy 3x turbo my calling range here is much diff than a $26 MTT if you get me..
– Why the big raise pre? is this your standard raise from this position?
– I know it's 15 hands in and early – but is there any table dynamic?
eg do you know villain? have you raise called similar spots with junk? or has he overjammed >35BB's before? is your image tight/loose?
Without more info it's difficult
Only played 15 hands at the table, and only info on the Co is that he didn't play any of them. The utg+2 I was certain was going to call as he was just looking for a double up I thought after losing 1/2 his stack calling pre with KQos.
My raises I range from 340 to 500 and I play range random win devisions of 10 (340,350,360,370…..etc)
Sorry for the little info, my paradise account dosn't save my Hand histories and i'm waiting for a reply from them to help me sort this.
My image is Tight, but this dosn't seem to matter in these games as to my suprise they seem weaker than the 2€ to 5€ games I usually play.
Due to the lack of info I actually folded thinking the best i'm proably hoping for is a coin flop or dominated, and wanted to wait for a better spot, utg+2 called and the Co showed AKs, and Utg+2 showed KQo. I think I still liked my play just wanted to know how others would play, when theres a lack of info on the player.
I found out later that the player was super aggresive( well with his calls atleast), as he was calling 2 to 3k allins with his 9k stack later with 74s, J9s, and KQos. So now atleast I know where I am with him now.
I actually went out of the tourney when the blinds were 100/200, there was 1 limper and the Co raised allin 8k+ I called with my KK, and to my suprise he raised allin with AA(shocking!!)
The level of play in these games was a nice suprise, as I found them to be just as weak as the micro stakes. I just wish I had a bigger bankroll to play them all the time.
Cheers mate 🙂
Hey Third what sight are you playing? Have you tried posting your hands using the Hand History Conveter? It would make it easier for all to read and comment.
positive to take out of the hand is that you probably made a good fold given the circumstances at the time
its very unlikely that he jams this much with KK or AA, and b/c you thought you were most likely flipping and you had a lot of chips you chose to not flip for 3/4 of your stack.
I mean the weaker the players are, the more reluctant you should be at wanting to put all your chips in the middle in a marginal situation like a coin flip as you should be able to use those chips to your advantage in other ways (post flop play/push shove mode when short)
I think the real challenge here is being able to adjust your play in-game
After 40 hands you're read is different and i'm sure you would double fist pump get it in against this guy now?
@swet1: I'm playing at paradise poker, and i'm still waiting for help from them to get my hand histories saved, as for some reason I only have histories upto march 2011. Cheers 🙂
@hapetimes: Thanks mate, I do like to give any player respect until I know differently about them, so the 15 folds was enough for me in this case to fold the AKs. After seeing how he played in the next couple of rounds I found he would gamble with anything as long as it left him with enough to play(he even utg limped called a 2500 allin with 74s and a stack of 9k with the blinds at 200), but he never really made the raise himself he just limped and was willing to call with any hand. I think I'd definately need a decent hand before ever raising him, and he'd be great to limp with, make a hand then just push and get paid off with any small pair or draw he had. Nice answer with the be more reluctant with the weaker players(the players seem worse everyday and I cant even keep up with my note keeping, they are all in that often with muck). It was only 10 mins ago I was playing the 10k grt was r'ed 4x by the utg so I rr allin with QQ and he called his 4k with A5os and knocked me out, but cant complain, i'm up €1300 over the last 2 weeks :))
It is hard to get to the end of tourneys with all these weak players tho as I do get my money in good normally, but they push and rr that often that their 4th attempt as a 30% underdog on average, takes the lead.
Cheers
lets assume without any reads that villain shove AQ+, 99+ here, you'll have 51% against his range. If his range is tighter like AK, JJ+ you'll have 42% against him. So if ur ok flippin for it, then call. But without any reads i'd be hesitant to flip or be dominated for 40bb. Even if his range would include AJ+, 77+ u would only be a 54% favourite.
I'd be calling w/ QQ+ to be sure if u have no clue yet what villains range would be.
I have mixed feelings here. It is such an overbet by him. The problem is, we pretty much know we are flipping vs. a medium pair here, however, I see people do this with AJ and AQ to. So knowing you are not dominated, he is never doing this QQ+, I might call and take a flip for a huge stack here. We play to win and this might be one of those spots we need to win a flip for a huge stack and a chance to take this down. Not only would it give you a huge stack, but it also gives you an image and people will not try and push you off hands anymore.
Hi Hawkeye, I agree with you that most players wouldn't push here withh QQ+, but on paradise Poker Fear of Flopping is a big part of alot of the players game, and I'v found that with the bigger stacks especially, when they push, even with no raise before them and just 1 or 2 limpers they have always had the goods. Just the other day I played a hand. I had KK on the button, there were 2 limpers for 200 and the Co raises from 200 to 8k allin, I obviously called and he showed his AA. And i'v seen this happen just about every time i'v seen one of these overbets on Paradise showed down, I have noted it on a minimum of 10 players over the last 3 weeks, and i'm yet to see anyone with an M of 10 or more do this overbet without them having AA,KK,QQ,AK. It's strange I know when you compare to the play on Stars or FT, but on paradise it just seems that the conservative route is the only road to take. It really is unbeliveable the amount of times I get called all the way from someone with with bottom pair, or even A high, people allin with a 4 outer gut shot, calling the short stacks allin with 74 when suited, limping from Utg then calling allin with J10os, and I could go on and it's proably more than 50% of the players who are like this.
And when I went from the €2 and €5 to the €20 games there was less really bad players but the players who were bad seemed much worse, it was the €20 games where the big stack was calling all the shortstacks off with complete muck like: 103os 87os 23s and risking 1/4 of his stack minimum every time.
When I sit at a table and check my notes on 4 to 5 of the players there it makes me laugh as it's unreal what I'v written down.
I'v got into the last 40 players 4x in the last 2 weeks in 1000+ player tournaments including 1x1st place and 1x7th place by just playing basic poker and playing my monster hands only, also I got 4th place in the €20 2k Grt but I had to play better poker once we got down from 80 to 30 players in this one. In the 1000+ player tourneys tho I dont have to change my game untill I get to around the last 100 players and even then you still have 2 to 3 players at the table who are just there to gambe on anything.
Cheers for the reply
