I’m going to be posting a few hands from a nice run I had at the WSOP Europe Mini Main €1350 in Rozvadov in October. This was the first time I’d ever played a tourney outside of the UK and the highest buy-in I’d ever played.

This hand is from the final three tables. Blinds 30k/60k/60k BB ante. Hero has about 2m, villain is a young aggro guy with about 3m.

Villain opens for 125k from CO. I 3bet to 375k from SB with AclubJspade. Villain calls

Flop (870k). Aspade7diamond3diamond. I bet 250k, villain calls.

Turn (1.3m) 8spade. I check, villain bets 350k, I call.

River (2m) 7heart. I check, villain shoves for my last 1m chips. Hero??

With an SPR of 2, flopping top pair, an aggressive opponent, and a fair number of draws missing, I think you have to call here…

What about my line on the earlier streets? Did I play it in a sensible way? I wasn’t sure if I should continue betting on the turn or take a more passive line as I did.

Your line looks good to me.  Generally, you can ask yourself ‘will the money go in better by betting or check/calling.  I am not sure you are getting called down by worse, while you keep Villain’s bluffs alive (and you look like you are hanging on with JJ-KK)…

What do you think about check/raising the turn?

Villain’s range for flatting your 3bet probably looks something like {A2s-AQs, A2o-A5o, A8o-AQo, K9s+, KJo+, Q8s+, QTo+, J9s+, JTo, T9s, 77-TT}.  This could be a bit wide but he only needs 29% equity to continue so it doesn’t take much.

When he calls the flop bet I would eliminate most of the off suit hands that didn’t make a pair and don’t contain a big diamond and most of the suited hands that aren’t diamonds or spades.  His remaining range would be Ax, set of 7’s, 88+, diamond draws and backdoor spade draws with 2 overs to second pair, and maybe JT/T9 with a plan of trying to blow you off on good turns.

The 8s on the turn brought some backdoor draws and improves villains equity by quite a bit.  The only hands I would be worried about are AQ and 77-88 and I don’t really want to let villain see the river for cheap.

I guess check raise could be good.  I generally prefer to let the aggro put the chips in of his own volition.
