I was just moved to this table.  I only played 13 hands at the new table.  The villian had not played a hand yet since I have been there.  Should I have played this hand any differently?  Also, what do people think the villian could have on this over bet on the river?

That over bet on the river totally confused me and had a hard time trying put the villian on a hand.

looks like he probably had the goods here…that or just wanted to push you off the pot after check check on the turn. A bit odd, I fold here as well.

I think you are probably beat here mainly because the river Ace connects so strongly with your range as PF aggressor so it looks like he is going for max value with a hand that beats a pair of aces. I would put him on 10,J or a back door flush.

I find myself in these situations quite often and sometimes think that part of the problem with checking the turn and then facing a big bet on the river from an agg opponent, is that its difficult to know whether they have a hand or are just responding to your perceived weakness. If you had bet the turn you would have a much better idea where you stood on the river. That said the pot is already quite big on the turn and you dont want to commit yourself with a pretty marginal hand. So maybe you want to think about raising less preflop and on the flop, so you can bet the turn without committing yourself.

I have really reduced my PF raise and c-bet sizes since joining this site and it seems to be working pretty well. One of the podcasts is pretty good on this.

All the best,
