Hey, guys! What do you think is a good distance nowadays to identify your winrate at MTTs? How many tourneys do you think I should play to find out how I am doing at particular stakes?

Average field size x 50 and you can start to get an idea.

Which sis going to be a lot, obviously.

So if you play in an average field size of 1000 then you need to play like 50k imo to get a true feel of where you stand.

~100 and you need to play 5k to start to get an idea.

This is still conservative but its the point where I think is reasonable but also logn enough to not be massively effected by variance.

With all that said.  Just play your best poker and dont fret something like that.  Becuase you are going to be constantly improving hopefully so you will never understand your current winrate at curent skill level since it is constantly evolving(hopefully for the better!)

I like the 'average field size x 50' metric, I've never thought of that before. Field size is definitely a huge determinant of variance and win rate in terms of results.

However, if you use tracking software (which you really should) then you can start to get a better idea through using your EVbb/100 numbers. It's not a perfect measurement by any means, but the bigger your sample of hands gets, the more useful it'll be. You can analyse your performance by different stack sizes and look at things irrespective of any impact variance may have.
