Me and a few mates from my MTT group were railing a mate on a FT of an $11 Turbo.

One of my friends said that this was a very good ATC r/f spot, as:

– The BB is short and will only shove with a tight range (we are committed to call this shove)

– The BB being short forces everyone to play 'honestly'

quote:

“I am doing it everytime I think BB does not feel compelled to ship back light, or IF my image is not toooo loose..

even then I am not worried about BB shipping back, cause calling it is again +ev…

biggest advantage is we collect variance free chips more often, and with a short BB, people are just honest…

that spot was soooo good for r/f”

“f BB had like 9-10 BB I would do it atc”

“everystack is like 15BB, awkward to reship light cause they know they have enough FE to openshove, BB is small..

so others are always honest.. now thing is if BB is a I dont give a fak kinda player, I always fold,

otherwise good spot to r/f cause bb doesnt ship often enough and calling his shove there with almost any 2 is profitable…

so all in all +ev”

I tended to disagree with what he said as:

– We are chipleader and when BB shoves and we lose, that is 1/3 of our stack gone which will cause us to lose FE

in future hands where we shove on the remaining players of which they may call with a lighter range due to not being

in jeopardy of their tournament life.

– We have a whole table to get our hand through (even though our UTG range may be perceived as strong)

– ICM considerations

– ATC is just way too wide here.

Essentially I thought this might be a good play in spots where people tend to be tighter, such as FT, FT bubble or

money bubble but he said that he does it in any situation that this may arise with these stack sizes.

However, still a bit skeptical on the ATC.

Can the players of TPE nation please comment on:

1) What you would do in this spot

2) Why you would take this line

3) Would you take this line in any situation that these or similar stack sizes arise or does stages in the tournament

affect your decision, and how?

4) Any comments you feel necessary

Hoping to hear from a few of you

Cheers

EDIT: sorry for crappy formatting of post with half sentences on next line. For some reason the posting function cut half of
the sentences off so had to edit.

It's a decent spot for sure. You aren't likely to be shoved on light. If opening ATC then you need to have a fold range vs BB shove. ICM considerations is what's mainly make this a decent open with ATC, so no, not taking this spot in the middle of the tourney with ATC, but its a good spot at the final 2-3 tables.
