I am starting to play in the Sunday 250k on Stars to help me push myself to play better and grow. One thing I am noticing is the increase in volume of large multi-way pots. I am wondering what kinds of adjustments you make (especially to c-betting or lack there of) when you get into pots like this with premium hands. I have been working on playing TAG and I am finding it almost impossible to make and kinds of reads and understand what opponents are holding and reading action. Just wondering what the thoughts are on this.

You mean the Sunday Quarter Million?  IMO, the Sunday Quarter Million has such a brutally bad structure and is such a donkfest lottery that it definitely isn't the tournament you want to use to push yourself, practice making reads, or improve your game.  If that is your goal, the Quarter Million is just about the worst non-turbo tournament you could possibly choose.

If you want to play tons of hands and get into tons of spots in a $11 tournament on a Sunday, play the deepstack 10k that starts at noon eastern time.  Takes 13 hours to get to the final table, but if your goal is to see a lot of hands and improve your game, that's a lot better option than the Quarter Million, which I realized this past Sunday (after wondering how they ever get through a 15,000-person field in one day and actually looking at the structure) is a horrible tournament and a waste of money.

Many people laugh at the ridiculously slow structure (and the crappy hourly you'll earn) of that $11 deepstack, but for your purposes (and mine too), it's definitely worth playing.  (Brag alert, it was also my first large-field MTT final table. Laugh)

If the deepstack is too slow for you, use the $11 for the Daily Forty Grand instead.  Just don't bother with the Quarter Million.  It is a joke.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely look into the Deep Stack this Sunday, I always appreciate advice from other players .

As a follow up, is there anything different way you play the deep stack, other than very tight early, then standard play once the blinds come up and ante's kick in?

I'd recommend a 1 rebuy 1 add-on or 2 rebuy 1 add-on tournament. Those give room for lots of play and you won't have a beard by the time it's done with.

Deeper stacked just means more post-flop play so you need to make special note of who overbets their weakish hands etc.

I have tried a $4.40 2R1A and a $2.20 1R1A with reasonable success, perhaps I will look into them more seriously.

I would. There's so much room for bad players to make a lot of errors. The more shallow the stacks, the easier and more luck intensive the MTT. I have like an 80% cashing rate in these 2R1A's… it's ridiculous.

Hmm, that sounds encouraging. I ran really well in the $4.40 on i had tried (13/139) and was enjoying myself. I'll have to give it a run Sunday when I get back home and see if I can make a good run. Thanks for teh suggestion!

You're welcome. And hopefully you're already doing this but use your rebuy(s) at the very beginning of these tournaments. There are plenty of bad players and you'd like to maximize your chips before they all bust out.

Good luck, sir.
