Hey guys,
Wanted to ask everyone what they thought. This hand was from the recent WSOP Circuit in AC. Was just watching a vid from here and Wein talked about bet size in a RFB hand pre flop with KK in the BB.
My situation was at event #1, playing well and the first few rounds. I'm in the BB (75/150). UTG +2, calls the 150, two more limpers. Comes around to me in BB. I look down and have KK, I made it 850 to go. All three guys call.
My question is in a LIVE tourney (or online) is that bet size enough ??? FYI, I had 17k at this point. What would you all bet in that situation?
I bring it up because the vivian that won the pot had 43 of diamonds and was last to act pre. He flopped flush draw (7 7 6 ) and pushed his final 5k into pot. Of course diamond on river. after hand, he said, “I had to do it, I was getting low on chips.” He had over 30 BB's when he pushed after flop. He ended up losing all his chips shortly after with 33 vs 77 another TPE member named Brock sent him home.
(I remember the vid you're referring to)
My standard without antes would be 3xBB (450) plus 1xBB for each limper (450)…… so 900, plus 1xBB because we're out of position, so 1050……..(Although I don't 'always' add the extra 1xBB all the time)
I think your raise of 850 is still ok though and should get respect, but once you get 1 caller, the other domino's follow each other and think value…… you know the drill….
Even if you make it 1050, it sounds like the limpers still call……
My general take on this sort of stuff from cash play and some of the live play is that I juice it hard. I think you are seeing the big value window opening for you here. I think you can abandon some of the conventional betting strategy a bit here and push hard. For the most part the average player (especially the live players) they aren't going to notice that you are playing your big hands bigger and your marginal hands smaller because of all of the limp/calling that goes on. Best advice I can offer here is play around with the bet sizing and go for the biggest you can get away with, as the tables are going to let you get away with a lot.
I ran into this exact situation twice at the Circuit in Tunica. Five limpers each time and I wake up with AA in the big blind. I made huuuuuuuuge raises both times and got one caller each time. So I completely agree with Southpaw. Make it $1050 or more. Seriously, you could make it $1300 and still get a caller. There's going to be some guy who's going to call no matter what you make it, and there's just not much you can do. Some people don't have a fold button.
On one of my AA hands, I made it like 10x and got a called by KJo. And the guy stacked off on a dry J-high flop for like 60bb.
